GGPoker ambassador Michael Mizrachi finished sixth for over $50K in Event 23. Naoya Kihara won the $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship for $301,970, capturing his third WSOP bracelet just three days after his second.
The $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship at Event #23 of the World Series of Poker has officially concluded, solidifying a historic stretch of play for Naoya Kihara.
It previously took Kihara 5,103 days to secure his second career WSOP bracelet, but his third victory took a mere three days to achieve.
Immediately following his triumph in the $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw Championship, Kihara entered the Seven Card Stud Championship field.
He navigated through a competitive lineup of 130 entries to claim the top prize of $301,970 from a total prize pool of $1,209,000.
The victory was secured after a final heads-up battle against James Cheung, the reigning $1,500 Seven Card Stud champion.
The final day of play quickly picked up pace as Dan Sepiol, Maksim Pisarenko, and Brad Ruben were all eliminated within the opening hour of action.
Their exits established the official final table lineup. Jason Kluska, who entered the day short-stacked with only a single big bet, was the next player to bust, exiting in eighth place.
He was closely followed out the door by Ryan Miller, a two-time WSOP bracelet winner and noted seven card stud specialist, who ended his run in seventh place.
WSOP Main Event champion Michael Mizrachi entered the final day holding the overall chip lead. However, the player nicknamed "The Grinder" progressively lost ground and slid down the leaderboard as the field shrank.
Despite showing flashes of another trademark tournament comeback, which he had successfully executed multiple times earlier in the event, Mizrachi was ultimately eliminated.
Chris Brewer delivered the final blow by hitting trip threes to crack Mizrachi's buried pocket aces. Brewer, who had recently ended a live tournament cash drought lasting nearly a year earlier in the summer series, was marking his second final table appearance of the season.
His deep run, however, ended in an unfortunate elimination. Having faced severe beats on major poker stages in the past,
Brewer suffered another tough exit when Jeremy Ausmus made a full house on seventh street to crack Brewer's completed flush.
Following the scheduled dinner break, James Cheung took dominant control of the table. Cheung targeted Jeremy Ausmus in a successive series of pots, repeatedly showing down strong holdings to chip away at his opponents and narrow the remaining field down to the final three players.
From there, Kihara outlasted the final contenders to complete his rapid back-to-back bracelet run.
