Despite stellar play and deep runs, he lost to a river card after a pivotal hand. Hellmuth's frustrations from this and previous close calls at the 2026 WSOP led him to publicly vent, a rarity for the usually optimistic pro. Phil Hellmuth posted a video venting his frustration after a bad beat elimination from Event #33 at the 2026 WSOP. The 17-time bracelet winner cashed 37th for $21,162, following a seventh-place finish in Event #9 during the previous tournament week.
The 2026 World Series of Poker (WSOP) has provided its share of dramatic moments, and the latest involves one of the most recognizable figures in poker history. Phil Hellmuth, who frequently attempts to maintain a positive presence across his social media platforms, broke that trend on Wednesday.
Following a highly frustrating bad beat elimination from a championship event, the 17-time WSOP bracelet winner released a video detailing his exit and expressing his growing irritation two weeks into the summer series.
The frustration peaked after Hellmuth busted on Day 2 of Event #33: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship. Hellmuth managed to secure a cash in the tournament, finishing in 37th place for $21,162.
Shortly after his elimination, Hellmuth posted a three-minute video clip sharing the specific details of the hand that ended his tournament run. According to Hellmuth, he was in excellent shape late in the Day 2 session and was playing great poker.
His deep run came to an abrupt halt when the only player at the table who had him covered called off a massive bet on the turn. The opponent was drawing to only three outs, but one of those precise outs landed on the river to eliminate Hellmuth from the field.
In the video, the "Poker Brat" directly addressed his deviation from his usual social media approach. "Folks, for the last few years, I don't really share many negative posts on social media. I understand, I'm always like 'hey, Phil, you have a lot of money."
"You have fame, you have fortune. You have health, you have everything," Hellmuth stated, before launching into his critique of the recent run of cards.
The elimination from Event #33 is not the only deep run that has caused dissatisfaction for Hellmuth during this year's series.
In the same video, he expressed lingering frustration over an elimination that occurred last week during Event #9: $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship.
Hellmuth navigated his way to the final table of Event #9, ultimately finishing in seventh place for a payout of $54,214.
Despite the deep run, Hellmuth reported that he ran poorly once he reached the final table, which caused him to fall short of capturing his record-extending 18th career World Series of Poker bracelet.
With two weeks of tournament play officially completed, Hellmuth's recent deep runs have yielded significant cash finishes but have left him short of adding to his historic bracelet collection.
The combination of a poor run at a recent final table and a three-out river card in Event #33 prompted a rare public vent from the poker veteran as the 2026 WSOP continues.
