Collingwood Magpies vs Port Adelaide Power AFL Betting Tips - Back Power to edge a thriller in Round 15

Port Adelaide are backed to break a poor recent record against Collingwood, with the Magpies weakened by injuries and struggling through a four-game losing streak in their last five matches. Despite Collingwood's dominance in recent head-to-heads, Port's close losses this season and strong defence make them poised for an upset. Expect a low-scoring, tight contest, with Jason Horne-Francis tipped to score 2+ goals and the total points likely staying under the predicted line.

Collingwood Magpies vs Port Adelaide Power Verdict

Port Adelaide have a poor recent record against Collingwood, but they are have their best chance against the injury-hit Magpies. The Pies have lost four of their last five matches and another tough day at the office is predicted.

  • Port Adelaide have a poor record against Collingwood at the MCG but have won five of their past seven at the venue
  • The Magpies have lost four of their past five matches
  • The total points in Port’s last six matches has averaged just 154
  • Jason Horne-Francis has kicked 2+ goals in his past three matches

Head to Head Stats

Collingwood have taken out the past five matches between the two sides and were 91-point winners the last time the two sides met, which was way back in Round 1 last season.

Four of those five have been at the MCG, with the past three coming by an average of 68 points.

Collingwood Magpies Form - Losing Run

Collingwood come in with a 5-7-1 win/loss/draw record. Since splitting their Round 8 fixture against Hawthorn at 93 apiece, they have lost four of five, with their only win in that period a 10-point margin against West Coast.

They had the bye in Round 14 and suffered an eight-point loss to Melbourne in the King’s Birthday ‘Big Freeze’ match prior to the break. The Magpies’ past five matches have been decided by 10 points or fewer.

Nick Daicos again found a stack of the footy with 35 disposals against Melbourne, while Josh Daicos had 30 disposals. Nick also chimed in with two goals, while Jordan De Goey, Jack Buller and Dan McStay also snagged two.

Port Adelaide Power Form - Competitive Port

Port Adelaide’s win-loss record of 4-9 this season does not paint a true picture of just how competitive they have been. Five of their nine losses have been by three points or fewer, including the Round 14 match against Sydney when going down by three.

Port Adelaide have a solid defence, ranking fifth for fewest points conceded, and despite being posted in 15th spot on the ladder, they have a percentage above 100.

Zak Butters has been a model of consistency and had 27 disposals against Sydney. He has had 25+ in his past three and had a streak of nine matches prior to that when he hit 30+. Jason Horne-Francis continues to have scoreboard impact in low-scoring matches and has booted eight goals in his past three games.

Port Adelaide venture to Melbourne for the second time this season and were winners at the MCG against Richmond back in Round 4, while they dropped their Round 1 clash to North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium.

Collingwood Magpies Team News

Collingwood's backline is set to be tested in the coming weeks, with Brayden Maynard sidelined after dislocating his shoulder and Darcy Moore also unavailable with a hamstring injury.

Jamie Elliott, Reef McInnes and Oscar Steene remain out for the season, while Will Hayes and Noah Howes are still a few weeks away.

There is some positive news, with Joel Cochran listed as a test and Steele Sidebottom expected to return after being managed before the bye.

Port Adelaide Power Team News

No injuries for Port Adelaide came out of the match against Sydney. Jack Lukosius should be ready to make his return.

Miles Bergmann is still a few weeks away, while Connor Rozee has been ruled out for the season.

Verdict

Port are backed to pull off an upset with the total points to hit the under. Jason Horne-Francis to bob up with 2+ goals in low scoring tight one.
