New Zealand Warriors vs North Queensland Cowboys Verdict


New Zealand are clear favourites at home, but they may face a tough task covering a 10.5-point line against a competitive North Queensland side. I think this goes under 50.5 points and the Cowboys stay close.

  • Four of the Warriors' last five games have produced 50 points or fewer.

The Warriors have dominated this matchup recently, winning four of the last five meetings.

They defeated North Queensland 30-26 last season and recorded convincing victories of 42-12, 26-12 and 22-14 in the three meetings prior. The Cowboys' only win in the last five came back in 2022 when they produced a 48-4 blowout.

Despite the Warriors' recent dominance, most of those games have been competitive enough to suggest the current handicap may be slightly inflated.

New Zealand Warriors Form - Back-to-Back Losses


The Warriors remain second on the ladder despite suffering back-to-back narrow losses to Penrith and Cronulla.

Defensively they continue to be among the competition's best sides, conceding just 13.6 points per game across their last five matches. 

Their attack has also remained solid, averaging 26.8 points per game despite personnel disruptions caused by injuries and Origin commitments.

The move to Christchurch for the first match at One NZ Stadium should create a strong home atmosphere, but the Warriors are still without James Fisher-Harris and Leka Halasima, while several Origin players face short turnarounds.

North Queensland Cowboys Form - Return From Bye


The Cowboys enter off a bye after losses to the Dolphins and Raiders, but the break may have come at the perfect time.

North Queensland have welcomed back Jeremiah Nanai and Braidon Burns, with further reinforcements possible through John Bateman. Their season has been inconsistent, but they still average 24 points per game and possess plenty of strike through Scott Drinkwater, Murray Taulagi and Nanai.

The concern remains defence, with the Cowboys conceding 25.8 points per game across their last five outings. 

However, against a Warriors side that has scored only 26 points total in its last two matches, they should have enough resilience to stay within the number.
