Wakefield Trinity vs Leigh Leopards, Super League Playoffs 2026 – Expert Prediction

Wakefield Trinity -4.5 is our best bet as the two sides meet for the second time in eight days, with Trinity looking capable of backing up last week's 19-8 victory over Leigh.

Wakefield secured home advantage for this eliminator by beating the Leopards on their own ground in the final round of the regular season. That victory completed a historic fourth-place finish for Trinity, and they now have the opportunity to reach a Super League semi-final for the first time.

There is good reason to expect Leigh to offer more this time. Wakefield coach Daryl Powell has already warned that the Leopards should increase their intensity, while Joe Ofahengaue admitted Leigh felt they got their game plan wrong in last week's defeat.

However, the matchup still appears to suit Wakefield. Trinity's pack gives them a platform to consistently make metres, while their rotational options should become particularly important later in the contest. Leigh can create opportunities through offloads and broken play, but Wakefield were better at converting their attacking chances in the previous meeting.

The recent form also supports the hosts. Wakefield have won three straight, beating Wigan 26-12, York 28-12 and Warrington 25-18 before last week's 19-8 victory at Leigh. The Leopards had been in excellent attacking form themselves before that defeat, scoring 48 against St Helens, 30 against Huddersfield and 62 against Bradford.

Tryscorer Betting

Tryscorer markets are not yet available for Wakefield Trinity vs Leigh Leopards. We’ll update this preview with our best anytime and first tryscorer selections once the markets are released.

  • Wakefield have won four consecutive Super League matches.
  • Trinity beat Leigh 19-8 away from home last week.
  • Wakefield have conceded only 57 points across their last four matches.
  • Leigh scored 140 points across their three matches immediately before losing to Wakefield.

Wakefield Trinity Form Analysis

Wakefield enter the playoffs playing some of their best rugby of the season. After losses to St Helens and Leeds, Trinity responded with four consecutive victories, including impressive results against Wigan and Warrington before shutting Leigh down last week.

Their recent defensive improvement is particularly encouraging. Wakefield have conceded 18 points or fewer in each of their four victories, while their pack has consistently provided the field position needed to control matches.

Home advantage is another significant change from last week's meeting. Wakefield finished fourth – the highest Super League placing in club history – and now have the opportunity to turn that achievement into their first-ever appearance in the competition's semi-finals.

Leigh Leopards Form Analysis

Leigh's 19-8 defeat shouldn't completely overshadow what had been a strong run into the playoffs. Before facing Wakefield, the Leopards had beaten St Helens 48-10, Huddersfield 30-18 and Bradford 62-10.

The concern is whether they can reproduce that attacking output against this Wakefield defence. Leigh should look to be more aggressive through the middle and use their offloading game to disrupt Trinity's defensive structure, rather than allowing Wakefield to dictate territory.

Their defensive scramble can also keep this competitive, but if Wakefield again consistently start sets further up the field, Leigh could spend too much of the contest working out of their own end.

Verdict

Wakefield Trinity -4.5 is the preferred play. Leigh should improve from last week's performance, but Wakefield's pack, home advantage and recent defensive form give Trinity a strong platform to cover the line.
