Carlos Alcaraz vs Otto Virtanen Predictions & Live Stream - Alcaraz Begins his Campaign in Barcelona
Carlos Alcaraz is determined to claim his third title in Barcelona, following a runner-up finish in Monte Carlo. Despite recent setbacks, including a loss to Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz remains a strong contender against Otto Virtanen, who has never been in the Top 90 and holds an 0-3 record against Top 20 opponents. Alcaraz, having started the year with significant victories, looks to regain momentum and secure another championship. Virtanen aims to make his mark but faces an uphill battle against the formidable Spaniard.

This will be the first match between Carlos Alcaraz and Otto Virtanen.
Alcaraz Aiming for Third Title in Barcelona
Carlos Alcaraz started 2026 with 16 straight wins, claiming the Australian Open and Qatar Open. His first defeat came in Indian Wells, in the semi-finals against Daniil Medvedev.
The 22-year-old suffered another shock defeat in Miami, beaten by Sebastian Korda in the third round.
The Spaniard went close to defending his title in Monte Carlo last week. He dropped one set on his way to the final where he ran into Jannik Sinner and went down 7-6 6-3.
Alcaraz dropped to World No.2 as a result and explained the defeat: “I would say that the important moments, the important points, I didn't play well. I think I had so many opportunities in the match that I didn't take it.
“So many games, points, so many 15/30, Love/30. I think the first tie-break, I didn't play well and I think he just played unbelievable tennis when it mattered. I think that was the key today.”
Virtanen Making up the Numbers
Otto Virtanen has never been inside the Top 90 and played just two main draw matches this year. He lost in the first rounds in Dubai and Bucharest.
The 24-year-old has performed better on the Challenger circuit, reaching the semi-finals in Manama and Thionville.
Virtanen got through the qualifiers in Barcelona, beating Aleksandar Vukic 6-3 6-7 6-4 and Alexandre Muller 6-4 6-4. He has an 0-3 record against Top 20 players.
Verdict
Carlos Alcaraz is a two-time champion in Barcelona and a short priced favourite to win this year. Otto Virtanen has little chance of beating the World No.2, but he could keep it close in the first set.
