Both Bejlek and Bucsa have exhibited better performance following earlier struggles this year. While both players are improving, Bejlek stands out for her greater efficiency and strong motivation, particularly given her wish to redeem herself after a previous US Open defeat to Bucsa. As a result, she is considered to have the edge going into the upcoming match, despite Bucsa’s experience. The key takeaway: Bejlek’s recent form and determination are likely to tip the scales in her favor.

Bucsa Finds Her Rhythm In Guadalajara

After defeating Bianca Andreescu in straight sets in the first round, Cristina Bucsa defeated Oana Udvardy in another straight-sets victory to reach the quarterfinals, winning 6-4, 6-4. She saved three of the four break points she faced and converted three of the six she created during the match.

This is her best result in Guadalajara. She previously played here at the WTA 1000 level in 2023, when her campaign ended in the second round.

The 28-year-old has struggled with form and consistency this year, including an eight-match losing streak from Indian Wells to Toronto. She has registered multiple wins only twice, winning the title in another American event in Merida and reaching the third round at the US Open.

She has a 1-2 record in tour-level quarterfinals this year, with her most recent win at this stage coming against Zeynep Sonmez in Merida earlier this year.

Bejlek Brings Recent Momentum Into A Revenge Match

Sara Bejlek received a first-round bye and began her campaign with a straight-sets win over Alycia Parks to reach the quarterfinals this week, 6-4, 6-3. She lost her serve once and broke her opponent four times during the match.

The Czech recently achieved a career-high ranking of 28 after a breakthrough run in Cincinnati, where she reached the semifinals. However, she faced an opening-round exit the following week against none other than Cristina Bucsa. She now looks for revenge.

Bejlek struggled with fitness issues earlier this year after winning her maiden tour-level title in Abu Dhabi, winning only four matches across 11 tournaments from Dubai to Wimbledon.

However, her performances in recent weeks have been notable, reaching the quarterfinals in Athens and Prague and the semifinals in Cincinnati. She heads into this clash with a 3-2 record in tour-level quarterfinals.

Verdict

Both players have shown improved results after struggling earlier in the year, but Bejlek has been slightly more efficient in recent weeks. Her recent form and desire to avenge the US Open loss give her the edge over the more experienced Bucsa.
