Basilashvili Serving Strong in Chengdu
Nikoloz Basilashvili dropped out of the Top 100 in 2023 but his long wait to return could soon be over. He came to Chengdu after losing 10 of his previous 12 matches but is on fire in China.
The Georgian has allowed two break points in five wins including the qualifiers. He beat Miomir Kecmanovic 7-6 6-4 and Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4 7-5 without giving up a break point.
The 34-year-old got past Jenson Brooksby 6-4 7-6 in the quarter-finals, winning 64% of his 2nd serves with his serve broken once.
Davidovich Fokina 2nd Seed in China
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina’s long wait to win an ATP Tour title came to an end in Mallorca. He didn’t face a Top 60 player on his way to title.
The Spaniard got to the fourth round at Wimbledon where he lost in 5 sets to Felix Auger Aliassime. He has competed in one event since, on clay in Umag where he suffered a quarter-final defeat to Alex Molcan.
The 27-year-old is serving strong in Chengdu where he has beaten Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-4 6-4 and Alexandre Muller 6-1 7-5. He has saved one break point and won more than 71% of his 2nd serves.
