Amanda Anisimova carries significant momentum into her third-round US Open match against Anastasia Potapova. Despite Potapova securing back-to-back wins for the first time in months, her recent back injury could hinder her performance. Anisimova's impressive hard-court Grand Slam record (5–1 in third rounds) and strong play against players outside the Top 20 make her the favorite. The head-to-head is tied, but Anisimova's recent form and fitness tip the scale in her favor for another deep US Open run.

Potapova Ends Her Slump With Back-to-Back Wins

Anastasia Potapova defeated Leolia Jeanjean in three sets to reach the third round at the US Open, winning 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. She lost her serve four times and broke her opponent five times during the match, but did enough in the deciding set to progress.

This is her first back-to-back main-draw wins since reaching the second week at the French Open. She had been dealing with a back injury in recent months and suffered early exits in her previous six tournaments before this week.

Earlier this season, Potapova struggled badly for form and came close to dropping outside the Top 100. However, an impressive clay-court season helped her climb back into the Top 30, and she will now look to reproduce that level on hard courts.

She heads into this clash with a 2-5 record in third-round matches at Grand Slams. Both of her previous second-week appearances came at Roland Garros, while five of her seven defeats at this stage have come at the US Open.

Anisimova Looks to Build on Her Recent Momentum

Amanda Anisimova defeated rising youngster Lilli Tagger in three sets to reach the third round, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. She surrendered an early lead in the second set but quickly raised her level and dominated the decider.

The American has struggled with a wrist injury earlier this year, which sidelined her for two months. Since returning, she has found it difficult to put together deep runs, although her recent quarterfinal appearance in Cincinnati provided a much-needed confidence boost.

The 25-year-old has reached the third round at all three Grand Slams this year. Apart from her quarterfinal run at the Australian Open, she lost her last two third-round matches, both in three sets.

Overall, Anisimova has a 10-4 record in third-round Grand Slam matches, while her record on hard courts stands at an impressive 5-1. She will look to improve that record this week.

Potapova's recent back injury raises concerns over her fitness and could prevent her from competing at her best. Although Anisimova is still working her way back to peak form, her level has improved significantly in recent weeks, making her the strong favorite in this matchup.
