Karolina Muchova defeated Naomi Osaka in straight sets 7-6, 6-4 to reach the Wimbledon semifinals. She twice trailed by a break in the opening set but responded immediately each time to regain control of the match.
With this run, Muchova became only the fourth player from Czechoslovakia/Czech Republic to reach the semifinals at all four Grand Slams in the Open Era.
The 29-year-old has now extended her winning streak to nine matches after lifting the Bad Homburg title before Wimbledon. The run is particularly impressive considering she had won only three grass-court matches across the previous four seasons and had never reached a grass-court semifinal before 2026.
The Czech has also enjoyed a consistent season, winning the Doha title, finishing runner-up in Stuttgart, and reaching the semifinals in Brisbane and Miami. Those results helped her return to the top 10, and this run guarantees a new career-high ranking next week.
Muchova heads into this clash with a 1-4 career record in Grand Slam semifinals. Her only victory came against Aryna Sabalenka at Roland Garros in 2023, while all three of her defeats have come against American opponents, including Coco Gauff at the 2023 US Open.
