Kostyuk Builds Another Deep Run

Marta Kostyuk secured her quarterfinal spot after defeating Ashlyn Krueger 6-4, 6-4. She trailed by a break in the second set but won the final four games in a row to seal the match in straight sets.

This is an impressive achievement for the Ukrainian, who had never won more than two main-draw matches at a grass-court event before this season.

The 24-year-old recently enjoyed a 17-match winning streak on clay, which ended against Mirra Andreeva in the Roland Garros semifinals, the best Grand Slam result of her career. She has carried that confidence onto grass and continues to build momentum this fortnight.

This is Kostyuk's fourth consecutive quarterfinal on tour and her fifth overall this season. Notably, she has won all four of her previous quarterfinals this year, including title runs in Rouen and Madrid.

Kostyuk heads into this clash with a 1-1 career record in Grand Slam quarterfinals. She lost to Coco Gauff at the 2024 Australian Open before defeating Elina Svitolina at Roland Garros earlier this season.

Former Finalist Back in Contention

Jasmine Paolini defeated giant-killer Alexandra Eala 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals. Despite dropping serve three times, the Italian played the key points better and stayed in control during the decisive moments.

This is Paolini's second Wimbledon quarterfinal. During her runner-up campaign in 2024, she also came through a three-set fourth-round win before going on to reach the final.

The result comes at the right time for the Italian, who had struggled for consistency this season and had not won multiple matches in a tournament since March. That difficult spell saw her drop out of the top 10 and slip close to the top 20.

This is only Paolini's second tour-level quarterfinal of the season. Her previous one came in Merida, where she reached the semifinals.

Paolini heads into this clash with a 2-0 career record in Grand Slam quarterfinals, having converted both previous appearances into finals at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in 2024.
