Bergs Playing Well in Shanghai
Zizou Bergs has been in the Top 50 player for over a year but is yet to go much further. He won his first ATP title on grass in Eastbourne.
The Belgian has been well below his best on the hard court swing, his best result coming in a third round appearance at the US Open.
The 27-year-old suffered a first round defeat in Tokyo last week, going down in 3 sets to Jiri Lehecka.
Bergs went deep in Shanghai last year and has continued that form. He thrashed Vit Kopriva 6-3 6-1 and Ignacio Buse 6-0 6-3, saving two break points in China.
Alcaraz Back in Form
Carlos Alcaraz recently returned to action at the US Open after spending four months recovering from a wrist injury. He got to the quarter-finals where he went down in 5 sets to Ben Shelton.
The Spaniard played one match at the Laver Cup, beating Taylor Fritz 6-3 4-6 (13-11).
The 23-year-old overcame slow starts to win the Japan Open last week. He went over 10.5 games in all five first sets, four of them settled in tie breaks. He turned on the style to beat Jiri Lehecka 7-6 6-4 in the final.
Alcaraz was hardly tested in his opening match in Shanghai, defeating Juan Manuel Cerundolo 6-3 6-3 after winning 60% of his 2nd serves and not allowing a break point.
