Canterbury Bulldogs vs South Sydney Rabbitohs Verdict


Canterbury suffered a blow last week when losing late to the Roosters, but they can get their finals charge back on track by covering the line. The South Sydney defence is there for the taking and I expect the Bulldogs to do so.

Canterbury have won three of the last five meetings with South Sydney, although the Rabbitohs claimed the first clash between these sides in 2026.

South Sydney won 32-24 in Round 5 after building an early advantage, but Canterbury won both meetings in 2025, including a dominant 32-0 performance at Accor Stadium.

Canterbury Bulldogs Form


Canterbury enter Round 24 sitting ninth and with virtually no margin for error in the race for the finals.

The Bulldogs appeared on track for another statement victory last week when they turned an 8-0 half-time deficit into an 18-8 lead against the Roosters. 

Three tries in 11 minutes had them in control, but they failed to close out the contest and conceded twice late in a 20-18 defeat.

Despite that result, their attack has also become more reliable when they get on top. The Bulldogs scored 36 against Melbourne, 32 against the Tigers and 30 against Gold Coast, and the combination of Lachlan Galvin and Stephen Crichton has provided greater stability through the middle of the field.

South Sydney Rabbitohs Form


South Sydney remain inside the top eight, but their recent performances have been anything but convincing.

The Rabbitohs raced to a 28-0 half-time lead against Parramatta last weekend and appeared headed for a comfortable victory before completely losing control of the game. 

The Eels scored 24 unanswered points after the break and South Sydney needed a clutch Cody Walker 40/20 in the final minutes to escape with a 28-24 win.

Defence remains the major concern. South Sydney have conceded 24 points or more in six consecutive games, giving up an average of 28 points across their last five.

Verdict

Canterbury will have enough class to score over 22.5 points and cover as 4.5-point favourites against Souths. Josh Curran will crash over making an impact of the bench once again.
