The Cronulla Sharks are strong favourites against the Gold Coast Titans despite missing Braydon Trindall, pushing the line to -6.5. They have convincingly won four of the last five meetings by 30+ points and rank second in points scored this season. The over 49.5 game total is tipped, given the Titans' leaky defence (conceding 30+ points nine times). The recommended bets are Cronulla -6.5 and over 49.5 points, with anytime tryscorer options in Ronaldo Mulitalo (Sharks) and Phillip Sami (Titans).

Gold Coast Titans vs Cronulla Sharks Verdict

Cronulla are missing Braydon Trindall but that has resulted in line moving to -6.5 and we're happy to take that. The points should flow in this one with the Game Total to go over 49.5 points.

  • Cronulla won the Round 1 meeting 50-10 and have beaten Gold Coast by 30+ points in 4 of the last 5 head-to-heads.
  • The Sharks rank 2nd in points scored and 1st in Completion Rate.
  • Gold Coast have conceded 30+ points 9 times this season and have allowed 31.6 points per game across their last 5.
  • The Game Total over is underrepresented on the season at 42%, and this matchup has enough Titans points and Sharks edge strike to clear 49.5.

Head to Head Stats

Cronulla have dominated this matchup, winning 4 of the last 5 against Gold Coast. The Sharks beat the Titans 50-10 in Round 1 this season, 54-22 last year and 44-0 at Cbus in 2024.

Gold Coast's only win in the last five meetings was a 20-16 result in 2024, but every Cronulla win in that sample has been by 30+ points.

Gold Coast Titans Form

Gold Coast lost 36-26 to Newcastle last week, and the final score probably flatters them less than the underlying game did.

They fell behind 16-0 inside the opening 18 minutes, then spent the rest of the match trying to chase their way back into it.

There was effort in the response. Beau Fermor scored twice, Jayden Campbell crossed before halftime, Lachlan Ilias returned to the NRL side and scored late, and the Titans had more tackles in the attacking half than Newcastle.

The issue is that their errors and penalties kept returning every time they had a chance to really turn the match.

The defence is still the problem. The Titans have lost three straight, conceded 30+ for the 9th time this season and now average 31.6 points against across their last five.

They rank 13th in points allowed, 16th in Run Mts allowed and 14th in Completion Rate defence, which is not the profile you want against Cronulla.

Cronulla Sharks Form

Cronulla's 24-20 loss to Canberra was costly in more ways than one. The Sharks dropped out of the top four for now, and Trindall's shoulder dislocation leaves Nicho Hynes carrying more of the attacking organisation this week.

The Sharks were still right in the game despite the disruption. Trindall scored the opening try, Will Kennedy crossed in the 50th minute and Ronaldo Mulitalo almost stole it late before the Bunker ruled no try because of inconclusive evidence. That late miss could have flipped the whole result.

Cronulla have averaged 27.2 points scored and 18.8 conceded across their last five, and the broader season profile remains strong.

They rank 2nd in points scored, 4th in points allowed and 1st in Completion Rate.

With Addin Fonua-Blake back from suspension, they should regain enough middle punch to protect Hynes and keep the attack rolling.

Verdict

Take Cronulla -6.5 and over 49.5. Ronaldo Mulitalo and Phillip Sami are the anytime tryscorer plays, with both wingers fitting a game script where the Sharks control the match but the Titans still find points.
