England vs Wales Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

England host Wales in the 2020 Six Nations at Twickenham with history showing we’re in for a tight encounter. The bookmakers have been kind with a 10 point handicap in my opinion so I’m going to back Wales to cover it.

England Form

England beat Ireland 24-12 at Twickenham to get their Six Nations campaign back on track. It is now two victories in a row for England after suffering an opening weekend defeat to France.

In order to claim the Six Nations crown England must simply win against Wales and hope Ireland can do them a favour on the last weekend. Defeat however to Wales and England’s hopes will be crushed.

Recent history suggests that England and Wales generally go down to the wire. This clash doesn’t often finish with huge margins between the sides so another close one can be expected. England are favourites at 1.22 but don’t be surprised if Wales pull this one through.

England News

Anthony Watson and Mark Wilson both make their first start of the season while Sam Underhill has been ruled out with injury. Watson replaces Jonathan Joseph in what are the only changes to the England side that beat Ireland.

Wales Form

Wales started the Six Nations with a massive victory over Italy but have since labored to a defeat against Ireland and suffered a 27-24 loss to France at the Principality Stadium last time out.

France has surprised many this season with their performances and Wales were actually quite effective for most of the match, some would even say unfortunate to lose. Wales have not been playing poorly their matches against England are generally pretty tight affairs.

Not since 2015 has Wales won at Twickenham but there is certainly value in the handicap market which is set at 10 points. An upset win could be on the cards considering the vulnerability England have shown at times this season.

Wales News

Star wing Josh Adams is has been ruled out of the Six Nations with Liam Williams coming in after a four-month lay-off. Fortunately Dan Biggar has been passed fit after suffering an injury last weekend against Saracens. Taulupe Faletau drops to the bench with Josh Navidi coming in.

England vs Wales Head to Head

Wales have won two of their last three matches against England with the latest victory coming in a Rugby World Cup warm-up clash at the Principality Stadium. Wales won 13-6. In five of the last seven matches between the two the points difference has been below 10 points.

England vs Wales Betting Odds

England are favourites at 1.22 to win with Wales offering odds of 5.00. A draw is priced at 34.00. The handicap market is set  at 10 points with England paying 1.83 and Wales 2.00.

England vs Wales Match Up

England will look do get the upper hand in the tight phases but this is a strength of the Welsh as well. Under Wayne Pivac Wales have played a bit more expansively but at Twickenham they will need to tighten up a bit more and focus on retaining possession.
