Aryna Sabalenka is expected to advance comfortably against Ekaterina Alexandrova due to her consistent high-level performance on hard courts and a formidable WTA 1000 record. While Alexandrova's recent victories are promising, Sabalenka's superior form and experience make her the clear favorite in this matchup. Sabalenka Continues Her Strong WTA 1000 Record

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Shuai Zhang in straight sets to reach the fourth round in Toronto, 6-3, 6-4. She saved both break points she faced and won 81 percent of her first-serve points during the match.

This is her fifth round-of-16 appearance at the Canadian Open. She lost at this stage three times, except for her semifinal run in Montreal in 2021 and quarterfinal appearance in Toronto in 2024.

The Belarusian won 23 of her first 24 matches on hard courts earlier this year and reached the final in all four events she played. However, since the start of the clay season, she has struggled to maintain that level and failed to reach another final.

Now back on hard courts, Sabalenka is looking to rebuild her momentum. She has reached at least the quarterfinals in nine of her last 10 WTA 1000 events and will be looking to continue that strong record this week.

Alexandrova Builds on Her Comeback Run

Ekaterina Alexandrova came from a set down to defeat Talia Gibson 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 and reach the fourth round in Toronto. She lost her serve once and broke her opponent twice during the match.

This is only the second time Alexandrova has won multiple matches at the Canadian Open. Her previous run also came in Toronto in 2019, when she reached the round of 16 before losing to Serena Williams. She will now be looking for her best result at the tournament.

The Russian won multiple matches only once in her first 15 events this season, but she has shown some encouraging signs in recent weeks by reaching the quarterfinals in Bad Homburg and the third round at Wimbledon, suggesting she is slowly building momentum.

Alexandrova has reached five WTA 1000 quarterfinals in her career, with two of those coming in North America. Her most recent quarterfinal at this level came in Doha in 2025.

Verdict

Ekaterina Alexandrova's recent wins have been encouraging, but Aryna Sabalenka's incredible record on hard courts gives her a huge advantage in this clash. With her superior form and proven record at WTA 1000 level, Sabalenka should progress comfortably.
