The Mallorca Championships is an ATP 250 grass-court tournament held annually at the Mallorca Country Club in Santa Ponsa, Spain, during the final week of the grass-court swing before Wimbledon. Sponsored by Vanda Pharmaceuticals, the event is the only ATP grass-court tournament staged in Spain and serves as a key preparation stop for players looking to fine-tune their game ahead of the year's third Grand Slam.

Although the tournament only joined the ATP Tour calendar in 2021, it has quickly established itself as an important fixture on the grass-court circuit. The event marked the return of ATP-level tennis to Mallorca for the first time since 2002, with Toni Nadal playing a leading role in its launch. Former champions include Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas, while Tallon Griekspoor arrives as the defending champion after capturing the title in 2025.

Players to Watch

Luciano Darderi arrives as the top seed and one of the form players on tour. While grass is not traditionally his best surface, Mallorca has regularly rewarded players with strong clay-court foundations, and the Italian's improved serving and confidence could make him a genuine title contender.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is a former Mallorca champion and remains one of the most naturally gifted grass-court players in the field. The quick conditions suit his aggressive style, and a return to the venue where he lifted the trophy in 2022 could help bring out his best tennis.

Frances Tiafoe heads to Mallorca full of confidence after capturing the title in Halle. When his game is clicking, his powerful serve, athleticism, and ability to take the ball early make him a dangerous opponent on any grass court.

Alejandro Tabilo has fond memories of Santa Ponsa after winning the title here in 2024. The Chilean has produced several encouraging performances this season, and his left-handed game is particularly effective on grass.

Nick Kyrgios is nowhere near full fitness and arrives with plenty of question marks surrounding his physical condition. However, few players in the draw possess his natural grass-court ability, and if he can string together matches, his shot-making quality makes him a threat to anyone.

Verdict

Luciano Darderi looks like the player to beat in Mallorca thanks to his recent form and favourable draw, while Frances Tiafoe enters as a major threat after his title-winning run in Halle. Alejandro Tabilo cannot be overlooked either, having already won this tournament and shown plenty of strong tennis throughout the season.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is an intriguing long-shot option given his past success at this venue, but consistency remains a concern.
