Daniil Medvedev had a sensational start to the year, winning titles in Brisbane, Dubai and losing the final in Indian Wells. He couldn’t match those efforts on clay and grass.
The poor form continued on his return to hard courts. He had a strong start at the US Open before a straight sets defeat to Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round.
The 30-year-old is coming off a title win in Hangzhou where he played four matches. He beat Valentin Royer 7-6 6-3 and Coleman Wong 6-3 6-7 6-3 before 7-5 6-4 victories over Roman Safiullin and Andrey Rublev.
Carreno Busta Struggling on the ATP Tour
Pablo Carreno Busta returned to the Top 100 in April but hasn’t reached an ATP Tour quarter-final since August 2024.
The Spaniard reached the French Open fourth round and second round at Wimbledon, beaten by Rafael Jodar on both occasions. He hasn’t got past the second round in his previous seven tournaments.
