Rybakina’s Winning Record In Finals Strengthens Her Title Bid

Elena Rybakina moved into the final in Ningbo after defeating Diana Shnaider in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. She lost her serve once and broke her opponent three times during the match.

This is her second consecutive final here in Ningbo. Last year, during her debut, she needed a three-set comeback win to lift the title, and she will look to defend it this week.

The 27-year-old is now looking to defend a title for the first time in her career. Before 2026, Rybakina had never won a title at the same venue twice, but she broke that trend by winning the title in Stuttgart earlier this year and now looks to repeat that achievement in Ningbo this week.

Rybakina has shown some struggles during the grass-court season, but aside from that, she has enjoyed a solid year, recording seven semifinal appearances or better, including Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open and US Open. Those results helped her achieve the world No. 1 ranking recently.

This is her sixth tour-level final this year, and she has won three of her previous five finals in 2026.

Fernandez Aims To Preserve Perfect Record In Asian Finals

Leylah Fernandez defeated Marie Bouzkova in straight sets to book her place in the final in Ningbo, winning 6-3, 7-5. She trailed by a break twice in the second set before finishing the match in straight sets.

She won her first three matches in three sets, including victories over Elise Mertens and Ekaterina Alexandrova, showing her strong resilience this week. After struggling to win multiple matches on hard courts earlier in the season, her recent results on the surface have been far more encouraging.

Until August, she had recorded multiple main-draw wins on tour only three times, all in clay-court events. However, since entering the North American swing, she has gradually found her level, winning the title in Singapore, reaching the fourth round in Toronto and the third round at the US Open and in Wuhan.

With this run, Fernandez is now pushing closer to the top 20 in the rankings. She heads into this clash with a 6-3 career record in tour-level finals, including a 3-0 record in Asia.
