Jannik Sinner enters the ATP Rome 2026 semi-final with a remarkable 27-match win streak, but signs of fatigue are showing as he faces Daniil Medvedev—who is seeking to rebound on clay. This will be their first meeting on this surface, with Sinner holding the psychological edge after recent victories. However, Medvedev’s resilience and the Italian’s recent workload suggest a tightly contested match is likely. The key recommendation is to back over 19.5 games, expecting a close battle regardless of the result.

Jannik Sinner showed some signs of fatigue in his victory over Andrey Rublev and beat Daniil Medvedev 7-6 7-6 in March. I am backing Medvedev to stay in this one and take the match over 19.5 games.

Sinner's Streak Continues

The Jannik Sinner train keeps rolling along, extending his streak to 27 victories, 25 in straight sets. He won the Indian Wells and Miami Masters without dropping a set.

The 24-year-old beat Carlos Alcaraz in the Monte Carlo final to regain the World No.1 position. He won the title in Madrid with minimal fuss, spanking Alexander Zverev 6-1 6-2 in the final.

The Italian hasn’t lost a set in Rome, defeating Sebastian Ofner 6-3 6-4, Alexei Popyrin 6-2 6-0, Andrea Pellegrino 6-2 6-3 and Andrey Rublev 6-2 6-4. His serve has been broken once on five break point opportunities.

Sinner spoke after surpassing Novak Djokovic’s record of 31 consecutive Masters 1000 wins: “I don't play for records. I play for my own story. At the same time, it means a lot for me.

“But tomorrow is another day, a different opponent, different conditions... Emotionally, it takes a lot playing here at home. But at the same time, I definitely try to do my best. It was a good day today.”

Medvedev Chasing Second Title in Rome

Daniil Medvedev won titles in Brisbane, Dubai and beat Carlos Alcaraz to reach the Indian Wells final where he lost 7-6 7-6 to Jannik Sinner. He ended the hard court swing with a 19-5 record.

The Russian had a terrible start on clay in Monte Carlo, suffering an incredible 6-0 6-0 defeat to Matteo Berrettini in his opening match. He won two matches in Madrid before a fourth round exit to Flavio Cobolli.

The 30-year-old came back to Pablo Llamas Ruiz 3-6 6-4 6-2 in Rome before easing past Thiago Agustin Tirante 6-3 6-2. He was down a break in the 3rd set against Martin Landaluce before coming through 1-6 6-4 7-5.

Medvedev praised Landaluce after the match: “If he plays like he did in the first set of every match, he will be Top 5 by the end of the year, in Turin… When you’re young, it’s tough to play a full match like this, so I just fought. I’m happy that I managed to seal the victory.”

Verdict

Jannik Sinner needed two tie breaks to beat Daniil Medvedev in Indian Wells. The Italian has the edge on clay, but fatigue could play a part here which is why I am backing over 19.5 games in Rome.
