Andreeva Seeks Fourth WTA 1000 Final Of Her Career

Mirra Andreeva defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova in two tight tiebreak sets to reach the semifinals in Beijing, winning 7-6, 7-6. She lost her early lead and allowed her opponent to serve for both sets before raising her level at the crucial moments to secure the victory.

This is her best result in Beijing. Her previous three appearances here all ended in or before the quarterfinals.

The Russian failed to defend her titles in Indian Wells and Dubai but raised her level during the clay season, winning 22 of her 25 matches, including her maiden Grand Slam title at Roland Garros.

After the clay season, she experienced some struggles but rebuilt her momentum during the North American swing by reaching the quarterfinals at the US Open and the fourth round in Cincinnati. She has continued that form in Beijing this week and will now look to reach the fourth WTA 1000-level final of her career.

Bartunkova Continues Remarkable Beijing Breakthrough

Nikola Bartunkova defeated her compatriot and world No. 8 Karolina Muchova in straight sets to reach the semifinals in Beijing, winning 6-3, 6-0. She lost her serve once and broke her opponent five times during the match.

She also defeated Aryna Sabalenka earlier this fortnight, securing the biggest win of her career, and followed it up with another impressive victory to highlight her tremendous rise in recent months.

Before arriving this week, she had never won a tour-level match in Asia or reached a quarterfinal at a WTA 1000-level event. She has now achieved both milestones during her remarkable Beijing run.

She has steadily improved her level on tour since the end of 2025. She also reached the third round at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, Rome, Toronto and the US Open, along with a semifinal appearance in Monterrey and two additional quarterfinals. With this run, she will make her top-30 debut next week.
