Diane Parry Rides Title-Winning Momentum in New York

Diane Parry moved into the second round of the US Open after defeating Viktorija Golubic in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. She trailed 0-3 in the first set before mounting an impressive comeback to take the set, which proved crucial to her victory.

This was her sixth consecutive win on tour. She recently snapped a six-match losing streak in semifinals to reach her maiden tour-level final in Monterrey, where she went on to win the title. She also reached the fourth round in Cincinnati, highlighting her impressive rise in recent weeks.

Parry also reached the fourth round at the French Open and the semifinals in Ostrava this year. These results helped her achieve a career-high ranking of No. 31 last week following her recent title run.

She has shown progressive results at the US Open throughout her career. After losing in the first round in each of her first three appearances, she reached the second round in 2024 and the third round in 2025. She will now look to take another step forward this week.

Cirstea Looks to Improve Her US Open Record

Sorana Cirstea kicked off her US Open campaign with a dominant straight-sets victory over Julia Grabher, winning 6-3, 6-0. She saved nine of the 11 break points she faced and converted six of the 13 opportunities she created.

Before arriving this week, she played two events during the North American swing, suffering an opening-round exit in Toronto before reaching the fourth round in Cincinnati.

The 36-year-old has been one of the more consistent players on tour this year. She has made 15 main-draw appearances and won at least two matches in 11 of them, including winning the title in Cluj-Napoca, reaching the semifinals in Rome, and the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.

She has previously reached the second round at the US Open 13 times but has cleared this stage only four times. With her improved level and consistency this year, she will look to improve that record this week.

Verdict

Parry's recent momentum has been impressive, but her demanding schedule and potential fatigue following her title-winning run could work against her. With Cirstea arriving fresher and producing more consistent results this season, the Romanian holds the edge to progress further.
