Despite her growth, Pegula's steady performance and strong track record this year set her apart as the favorite to progress. Pegula's Consistency Continues to Shine in New York

Jessica Pegula ended Sorana Cirstea's incredible run in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals at the US Open, winning 6-3, 6-4. Despite losing her serve twice, she remained in control throughout the match to close it out comfortably.

With this win, Pegula reached the quarterfinals at the US Open for the fourth time in her career. She lost at this stage to Iga Swiatek in 2023 but has won her last two quarterfinal matches against Swiatek and Barbora Krejcikova in the past two years. She is now one win away from reaching her third consecutive semifinal here.

The 33-year-old has won 49 matches on tour this year, the most by any player in 2026. That includes 12 quarterfinal appearances across 15 events, including this week's US Open, and she has won seven of the 11 quarterfinals she has played this year.

Pegula owns a 3-7 record in Grand Slam quarterfinals. She lost her first six matches at this stage but has won three of her last four.

Emma Navarro dispatched Anna Kalinskaya in straight sets to secure her place in the quarterfinals, winning 6-4, 6-2. She saved five of the six break points she faced and converted four of the six opportunities she created.

The American has reached the quarterfinals at the US Open for the second time in her career. She previously reached this stage two years ago, when she defeated Coco Gauff and Paula Badosa in back-to-back matches to reach the semifinals. She will look to repeat that run this week.

The 25-year-old had a disappointing start to the year, winning only five main-draw matches across her first 11 events. However, she has posted some encouraging results since then, winning the title in Strasbourg, reaching the final in Nottingham, the quarterfinals in Bad Homburg and the third round at Wimbledon.

She dropped off slightly during the North American swing, winning only two matches across three lead-up events before entering the US Open. She has a 1-2 record in Grand Slam quarterfinals. Her only win came during her semifinal run at the US Open in 2024.

Verdict

Navarro has shown impressive improvement after a slow start to the season and has found her best level again in New York. However, Pegula's remarkable consistency and strong results throughout the year give her the edge and make the American the favorite to progress further.
