Leylah Fernandez is tipped to win the 2026 WTA Hong Kong Tennis Open, held 2–8 November at Victoria Park. Fernandez, the 2023 champion, arrives in strong form after a successful Asian swing and her left-handed game is well suited to the tournament’s medium-paced Greenset hard courts. Alexandra Eala is considered the main challenger from the bottom half of the draw, supported by local fans. Paula Badosa and Dayana Yastremska are mentioned as dangerous outsiders. With 2025 champion Victoria Mboko not defending, a new winner is guaranteed.

The WTA’s Asian swing makes its final stop in Victoria Park as the 2026 Hong Kong Tennis Open runs from November 2 to 8. With 2025 champion Victoria Mboko absent, the WTA 250 event is guaranteed a new winner, and Sorana Cirstea leads the field as top seed.

Alexandra Eala is seeded second and will draw strong support from Filipino fans in Hong Kong. Leylah Fernandez, the 2023 champion, and Maria Sakkari complete the top four, while Dayana Yastremska, who won the title in 2018, is also in the draw.

The first round brings some heavyweight matches for a WTA 250. Fernandez faces former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, Paula Badosa takes on lucky loser Elena Pridankina, and Venus Williams continues her late-season run with a wildcard against Mary Stoiana.

Tournament Overview

The Hong Kong Tennis Open was first held in 1980 and returned to the WTA calendar in 2014, after more than two decades away. It was then off the schedule again from 2019 to 2022 before coming back in 2023. Former world No. 1s Caroline Wozniacki and Jelena Jankovic are among its past champions.

The 2026 edition is the tournament’s 13th, played on outdoor hard courts at the Victoria Park Tennis Stadium. There are no byes in the 32-player draw, so all eight seeds play from the first round. The final is on Sunday, November 8.

Ranking Points & Prize Money

The Hong Kong champion banks $37,390 and 250 WTA ranking points, with $22,125 and 163 points going to the runner-up.

A semi-final run is worth 98 points. As one of the final WTA events of the year, Hong Kong is the last chance for many players to improve their ranking before the off-season. For those just outside the top 32, a title run could make a real difference to their seeding at the Australian Open in January.

Playing Conditions & Court Speed

The Victoria Park Tennis Stadium plays on Greenset hard courts, which usually give a medium pace and a true bounce. Early November in Hong Kong tends to be warm and fairly humid, so fitness matters at the end of a long season. Left-handers have done well here recently: Leylah Fernandez won in 2023 and Diana Shnaider in 2024, both lefties.

Matches here can be long. Two of the last three finals went to a deciding set, including last year’s marathon, which Victoria Mboko won in almost three hours. For bettors, total games markets are worth a look, especially in matches between evenly matched baseliners.

Recent Champions

Two former winners are in the draw. Leylah Fernandez came from a set down to beat Katerina Siniakova in the 2023 final, and Dayana Yastremska won the title as an 18-year-old in 2018. Eighth seed Katie Boulter has unfinished business after losing the 2024 final to Diana Shnaider.

Top 8 Seeds

Sorana Cirstea leads a seeded group in which seven of the eight seeds are ranked inside the top 45. With no byes, every seed faces a tricky opener. Third seed Leylah Fernandez has the toughest assignment, against former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, while sixth seed Wang Xinyu carries Chinese hopes against local wildcard Adithya Karunaratne.

Players to Watch

Leylah Fernandez
The 2023 champion has a strong record in Asia this autumn, which includes a run to the Ningbo final. Her left-handed game is well suited to these courts, but she faces a dangerous opener against Sofia Kenin. If she gets through that, a second Hong Kong title is very much on the cards.

Alexandra Eala
The second seed will have plenty of Filipino support in Hong Kong, which could make this feel close to a home event. Eala has the shot-making to trouble anyone in this field, and an opener against Alycia Parks gives her a chance to settle in quickly.

Sorana Cirstea
The top seed is the highest-ranked player in the draw. Her aggressive, flat hitting is a good fit for a medium-paced court. Cirstea faces Maria Timofeeva first and has a reasonable path through the top quarter.

Paula Badosa
The former world No. 2 is unseeded, which makes her one of the most dangerous players in the draw. She opens against lucky loser Elena Pridankina, and if her body holds up, she has the power to beat any of the seeds.

Dayana Yastremska
The 2018 champion returns to the scene of her first WTA title. Her big hitting can blow opponents off the court when it clicks, and she opens against Zeynep Sonmez.

Verdict

Leylah Fernandez gets our vote in Hong Kong. The 2023 champion arrives off a strong Asian swing, and her lefty game suits the conditions.

Second seed Alexandra Eala is the main danger from the bottom half and will have the crowd behind her. For bigger prices, former world No. 2 Paula Badosa is a dangerous floater, and 2018 champion Dayana Yastremska can catch fire on her day.
