1:15pm Haydock - Handicap Hurdle Tips
An intriguing opener, where FLORIDA DREAMS (11/2) appeals most to me. Nicky Richards' seven-year-old won a Grade Two during his bumper days, but has been largely disappointing over obstacles, winning just once as a novice and one of his seven starts last term.
Florida Dreams started out over fences this season, losing out by just a head to I Am Max at Hexham, despite jumping poorly on the whole. Brian Hughes' mount was much more comfortable back over hurdles at Carlisle last month, and led narrowly after the last, only to get run down by the charging Hartington.
Richards' star remains on a decent mark and softer ground at Haydock won't be an issue. His two hurdling victories have come going left-handed, so I'm hopeful that the track will suit.
1:30pm Ascot - 1965 Chase Tips
Ascot's card kicks off with a blinder of a 1965 Chase. Pic D'Orhy has won mediocre renewals of this Grade Two in the last two seasons, but only sits third in the current betting, after what seemed a hard reappearance run in the Charlie Hall.
I'm happy taking the enigmatic and fragile Il Est Francais on, and I've landed squarely on JANGO BAIE (7/2). Nicky Henderson's star claimed a shock victory in the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival, around which he suffered narrow defeats in both the Scilly Isles and the Manifesto.
Nico De Boinville said his mount hated the heavy ground at Sandown, so did well to push Handstands so close. Jango Baie then made a few too many errors around Aintree, but hung onto Impaire Et Passe's coattails well to finish just a length-and-a-half adrift in third.
Nicky Henderson revealed in his stable tour that Jango Baie returned from Aintree lame, which made me mark that effort up considerably. Connections are eyeing a tilt at the King George VI Chase, so Jango Baie will need a good run on Saturday to prove himself worthy of a crack at that historic Grade One.
1:50pm Haydock - Graduation Chase Tips
I'm happy to take a watching brief with this Graduation Chase. Any readers of mine will know how much I love Iroko, but The Jukebox Man is a genuine Grade One chaser, and could be a little too classy on the day. The favourite isn't available at a backable price, so I'll sit back and just enjoy the spectacle.
2:05pm Ascot - Berkshire National Chase Tips
Back to Ascot for the Berkshire National, where REGARDE (6/1) looks to have a great chance. Jamie Snowden's eight-year-old won well over three-and-a-half miles on his penultimate start of last season, before keeping on gamely behind the progressive Ask Brewster during Cheltenham's April Meeting.
Snowden sent his eight-year-old back to Cheltenham for his reappearance in April, where Barry O'Neill guided Regarde to third-place behind the impressive Smugglers Haven in an Amateur Jockeys' Handicap. Three-pound claimer, Joe Anderson returns to Regarde's saddle for this assignment, and this good-ground-loving stayer should have a big hand to play under bottom-weight.
As usual, this Premier Handicap has attracted a quality field. Dan Skelton earmarked this race for ACE OF SPADES (7/1) at the end of last season, and dropped his six-year-old down to two-and-a-half miles for his intended pipe-opener at Aintree.
Despite Skelton stating that his six-year-old would need the run, punters backed Harry Skelton's mount into favouritism. Ace Of Spades didn't travel with his usual zest, but picked up gamely in the closing stages and got up to beat Moonbow - who was race-fit having won three times during a busy summer campaign.
Ace Of Spades looked a progressive stayer last term and remains on a thoroughly decent mark. Harry has opted to ride him over stablemate Joyeux Machin. Everything points towards a big run from this talented handicapper.

2:40pm Ascot - Ascot Hurdle Tips
Wodhooh tops the market for this intriguing Grade Two, and I have huge respect for Gordon Elliott's raider. Celtic Dino is interesting over this longer trip, and Kateira cannot be counted out.
At an each-way price, I'll side with CRAMBO (14/1), who'll be defending an unbeaten record around Ascot. Fergal O'Brien's stable star won a novice hurdle over this course-and-distance, and has gone on to win the last two renewals of the Grade One Long Walk Hurdle at this venue.
Crambo has been campaigned primarily as a stayer over the past two seasons, but his record over this shorter distance is very good. Jonny Burke's mount won last year's Long Walk on his seasonal reappearance, and Crambo's love for Ascot could see him challenge his speedier rivals.
With the Tizzard stable still in rip-roaring form, I'm drawn to JPR ONE (6/1). Joe Tizzard's star chaser will be looking to end a run of five straight defeats, with the last of those three coming in handicaps.
JPR One jumped poorly under 12-00 in the Grand Annual at Cheltenham, but performed a little better when beaten six lengths in the Red Rum at Aintree. Brendan Powell's mount returned to Exeter to try and defend his Haldon Gold Cup crown two weeks ago, but found himself outpaced behind the rampant Thistle Ask and trailed over the line a distant third.
With Boothill in the field, JPR One will carry just 11-8 - the lowest weight he's ever shouldered in a handicap. Good ground around Ascot should suit this classy chaser well. He can bounce back to winning ways.
At the end of what I'm hoping will be a good day for the in-form Nicky Richards, FAMOUS BRIDGE (8/1) interests me in the card-closer. Sean Quinlan's mount won this race off 129 in 2023, and ran out a clear-cut winner of the Grand National Trial here in February - only to be disqualified after a banned substance was found in his sample.
Famous Bridge then finished a creditable sixth off a career-high mark of 142 in the Ultima at the Cheltenham festival. Sadly, Quinlan's mount was pulled up in the Scottish Grand National, and returned this season with a last-place finish at Ayr.
That pipe-opener was back over hurdles, however, and I'm sure Richards will have had both eyes fixed on this prize. Famous Bridge has won twice over this course-and-distance carrying north of 11-8, with the last of those wins coming on heavy ground, so I'm confident he can challenge here with 12-00 on his back.
