In the second installment of the Rugby League Ashes, Australia is set to close the series with another win against England. Despite dominating the first game with a 26-6 victory, England is expected to present a stronger opposition. Key players like Reece Walsh and Mark Nawaqanitawase played crucial roles in Game 1, and their performances will be keenly watched again. While Australia's form is formidable, England seeks to exploit their skills and go over their team total. The game promises excitement with potential betting value on a high-scoring match.

England vs Australia Game 2 Preview

Australia can wrap up the series and take a 2-0 Rugby League Ashes lead, but there is value on England in Game 2. Despite being dominated in the opener, I'm backing England to be more competitive and go over their team total.

  • Australia have gone Under this Game Total in 5 straight but had gone Over in 7 of the 8 games prior.
  • England had scored 14+ points in 16 straight games prior to last weekend’s loss and haven’t had back to back single digit games since 1980-81
  • Mark Nawaqanitawase led the NRL in tries this season with 25 in 24 games.
  • Mark Nawaqanitawase scored 8 tries in his last 3 regular season games.

Head to Head

There have been 26 games played between Australia and England since 1909 with Australia holding a 17-7 lead in the head to head. Australia have won 14 games in a row dating back to a double test series in England in 1995.

Australia won 26-6 in their first match up last weekend.

England Form

Not a great deal can be said about England's performance in the defeat to the Kangaroos in game 1. It was clear that they were often a step behind the Aussies in speed and structure aswell as determination.

NRL stalwart Herbie Farnworth was one of the better players on an otherwise sour afternoon for the English, he ran for 123 metres, the most of anyone on his team while also making 16 tackles.

England had to use their kicking game to create metres but were starved of scoring opportunities throughout the contest.

A total of 43 missed tackles didn’t help to keep the momentum in balance as they were forced to do more tackling than their counterparts.

Post Contact Metres were a problem for England as Australia opened them up on multiple occasions while also getting offloads away.

Australia Form

Australia were electric in their first Ashes Test victory over England last weekend 26-6. Reece Walsh and Angus Crichton scored two tries each and it was until the final minutes that England were able to cross for their only points of the match.

The Possession and Territory were slightly in the favour of the Aussies and they racked up 1446 Run Metres with nine Linebreaks. They still made 12 errors in the game, completing at just 66% which will disappoint the leaders but there were a number of individual performances that stood out.

Reece Walsh was everywhere, following up from his majestic Grand Final appearance for the Broncos, Mark Nawaqanitawase topped the metres tally with 215 in his debut while Hudson Young made 34 tackles in the back row.

The Australian spine clicked into gear and they were clinical in their relentless attack on the Poms.

Australia Team News

Only the one change for the Aussies with captain Isaah Yeo sidelined with concussion protocol. Lindsay Smith is the addition to the 17 on the bench with Pat Carrigan moving to lock and Lindsay Collins to the starting side.
