Canterbury Bulldogs vs North Queensland Cowboys Preview


The Bulldogs have a strong defence and they can keep the Cowboys quiet in what is expected to be a low-scoring game. It can follow a trend of close games this season and the 1-12 margin is the value.

  • Canterbury restrict their opponents to an average of 1518 Run Metres per game, one of the better teams in the league.

Canterbury won the lone matchup last season 12-8 but it is the Cowboys who hold a 6-4 advantage in the head to head since the start of the 2019 season. North Queensland won the most recent outing at Accor 44-6 in 2024.

Canterbury Bulldogs Form Analysis 


The Bulldogs have dropped two straight following a 32-12 loss to the Broncos last weekend. They sit 10th on the ladder with a 3-4 record while also having had their first bye. 

Completion rate killed them last week against Brisbane, just 72% of sets completed while the Broncos reached 93%. 

The other metrics still look good for the Bulldogs as they are making metres, breaking tackles and the kicking game is solid and their will be no panic stations.

North Queensland Cowboys Form Analysis 


The Cowboys had a four game win streak snapped two weeks ago in a brutal 38-6 loss to Manly, but they rebounded in the best way possible with a 46-34 win over Cronulla last weekend.

Controlling possession is the best way to beat the Sharks and that is exactly what North Queensland did, racking up 1737 Run Metres with four of their back five all surpassing 130 metres each. 

The Cowboys also had 12 linebreaks with the team starting to hît their straps in attack.

There are still a lot of questions on defence, however, with the Cowboys allowing 30+ pts in three straight games.

Verdict

Take the Bulldogs to win 1-12 and with the large total on offer the Under is the value play according to the predictive modelling. Jonathan Sua is the best value for tryscorer, take him anytime and first.
