Taylor Fritz and Alexander Bublik are set for a high-stakes semifinal at the Stuttgart tournament, each looking to secure the final spot. While Bublik enters with a strong grass-court semifinal record and recent upset victories, Fritz’s edge lies in his championship experience and determination to defend his title during a crucial points-heavy grass season. Historical matchups slightly favor Bublik, but Fritz’s reliability in pressure moments positions him as a trustworthy pick. Bettors are advised to consider Fritz to win, possibly in straight sets, with tiebreaks likely.

Taylor Fritz has not looked noticeably better than Alexander Bublik in Stuttgart this week, and his overall level during recent months has been far from convincing.

However, one factor working strongly in his favor is the fact that he is the defending champion here, which could provide the extra motivation and belief needed to navigate another difficult challenge and reach the final for a second consecutive year.

A Showdown For The Last Spot

  • Alexander Bublik holds a 4–1 record in grass-court semifinals.
  • He owns a 7–9 record against Top 10 players since 2025.
  • Taylor Fritz has a 5–1 record in tour-level grass-court semifinals.
  • He has lost six of his last seven matches against Top 20 players.

Bublik Prevails in Serve-Dominated Battle

Alexander Bublik moved into the semifinals in Stuttgart after defeating Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6, 7-6. It was a serve-dominated contest, with neither player creating or facing a break point. Bublik held his nerve in both tiebreaks to secure the victory.

The Kazakh arrived this week with disappointing form, having failed to win multiple main-draw matches in seven of his previous nine tournaments, a stretch that began after Dubai and continued through Roland Garros.

Despite those struggles, his ranking remained relatively stable, and this run comes at an important time. Bublik has significant points to defend over the coming months, including a title run in Halle next week, making this week's results a welcome boost.

He owns a strong 16-9 record in ATP semifinals. Two of those defeats came earlier this season in Rotterdam and Geneva. On grass, Bublik holds an impressive 4-1 semifinal record, with his only loss at this stage coming against Kevin Anderson in 2021.

American Keeps Title Defence Alive

Taylor Fritz survived another three-set battle to reach the semifinals in Stuttgart, defeating Mattia Bellucci 5-7, 7-5, 7-5. Earlier in the week, he came through a similarly tough three-set match against Martin Landaluce.

Fritz is now one win away from reaching a second consecutive final in Stuttgart. Last year, he lifted the title without dropping a set, defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alexander Zverev in the later rounds. It was his fifth grass-court title and his first outside Eastbourne.

The American has been dealing with knee issues since early in the season, which affected both his schedule and results. He played only two events between March and the grass swing, losing both matches, including a defeat to Nishesh Basavareddy at Roland Garros.

This run comes at an important time for the 28-year-old, who has a significant number of points to defend during the grass season. Along with his Stuttgart title, he is also defending titles points from Eastbourne and a semifinal run at Wimbledon.

Fritz owns a 5-1 record in grass-court semifinals. His only defeat at this stage came against Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon last year, while all five of his semifinal victories on grass have come against players ranked outside the Top 20.

Verdict

While this is unlikely to be a straightforward match, Fritz still looks the more trustworthy option in the bigger moments. Backing Fritz to win, Fritz to win in straight sets, and a first-set tiebreak all fit the expected match pattern.
