Katie Boulter's victory over World No. 4 Elena Rybakina sees her surge into the Queen's Club semifinals, regaining confidence after a tough stretch and closing in on a Top 50 ranking. Donna Vekic, a lucky loser now on a remarkable run, brings experience and strong grass-court play after her win against Karolina Pliskova. Boulter leads their head-to-head and, with recent results plus the home crowd, she holds a narrow edge. Both players’ resurgence sets the stage for a tightly-contested semifinal.

Boulter Claims Biggest Win of Her Career

Katie Boulter produced one of the biggest wins of her career by defeating Elena Rybakina 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 to reach the semifinals at Queen's Club. She saved 12 of the 14 break points she faced and converted two of her seven break opportunities in a gritty performance.

It was an important response from the Brit, who had failed to win back-to-back matches in each of her previous four tournaments. She had also been pushed hard in her opening-round victory over Leylah Fernandez earlier this week.

Boulter started 2025 ranked inside the Top 30, but a dip in form and results saw her fall outside the Top 100. However, she has shown signs of improvement this season, winning the title in Ostrava, reaching the third round in Miami and the quarterfinals in Rouen.

With this run in London, Boulter has moved close to a return to the Top 50 in the rankings. The 29-year-old now holds a strong 5-1 record in tour-level semifinals and has converted four of those appearances into titles, including two on grass.

Vekic Continues Remarkable Week

Donna Vekic defeated Karolina Pliskova 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to secure her place in the semifinals. She dropped serve three times but broke her opponent on four occasions to come through the contest.

The Croatian failed to qualify for the main draw earlier this week but has taken full advantage of her lucky loser entry. It is her biggest semifinal run in over a year and a welcome turnaround after a difficult period.

Vekic recorded multiple main-draw wins only four times throughout the 2025 season and continued to struggle at the start of this year, slipping from inside the Top 20 to outside the Top 100 in the rankings.

However, a semifinal run in Linz, a runner-up finish at the WTA 125 event in Istanbul, and this week's performance have moved her back to a return to the Top 50.

Vekic owns a strong 14-8 record in tour-level semifinals. On grass, she holds an impressive 5-2 record at this stage.

Verdict

Katie Boulter will be full of confidence after recording the biggest win of her career against Elena Rybakina in her last match. Donna Vekic has also made the most of her lucky loser opportunity and continues to show her experience. However, considering recent performances and the support of the home crowd, Boulter holds the edge in this matchup.
