Amanda Anisimova Builds a Timely Winning Run

Amanda Anisimova defeated Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova in straight sets to secure a quarterfinal spot in Cincinnati, 6-1, 6-4. She did not face a break point and won 88% of her first-serve points during the match.

This is the first time she has won more than two main-draw matches on tour since her semifinal run in Dubai earlier this year. It is also her best result in Cincinnati.

The American posted solid results earlier this year, but a wrist injury halted her progress and sidelined her for two months. Since returning, she has played only a limited number of events and failed to defend her runner-up points at Wimbledon, which pushed her close to dropping out of the Top 10.

She has reached three quarterfinals before this year and won two of them, including against Pegula at the Australian Open. This is her seventh career quarterfinal at WTA 1000 level and her first in North America.

Pegula Returns to the Cincinnati Quarterfinals

Jessica Pegula secured a quarterfinal spot in Cincinnati after defeating Sorana Cirstea in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. She was a set and a break ahead and looked set to finish comfortably before being forced into a deciding set to complete the win.

This is her third quarterfinal appearance in Cincinnati. She lost at this stage in 2022 but went on to reach the final in 2024.

It is also her 11th quarterfinal on tour this year from 14 events, including this week. She has won six of her previous 10, although her record at the quarterfinal stage of WTA 1000 events this year stands at 1-3.

Overall, she has played 25 WTA 1000 quarterfinals and won 14 of them, including a 9-6 record in North America. However, she is currently on a three-match losing streak in WTA 1000 quarterfinals.
