Anna-Lena Friedsam faces Katarzyna Kawa, carrying momentum from a semifinal run in Angers. In stark contrast, Kawa's form has dipped, especially on hard courts, with only two main draw wins in recent months. Friedsam has shown a solid performance on hard surfaces this year, boasting a 29-14 record. Having also led 2-0 in their head-to-head meetings, Friedsam seems poised to extend her advantage. Conversely, Kawa’s current struggles, notably a rash of early exits on hard courts, highlight Friedsam as the stronger contender.

Anna Lena Friedsam comes in with real momentum after her semifinal run in Angers, and her level has been far more reliable in recent weeks. Katarzyna Kawa, on the other hand, has been battling poor form and has managed only two main draw wins in recent months.

On current trajectory, Friedsam holds the clear edge and is the stronger pick in this matchup.

Friedsam’s Recent Form Meets Kawa’s Struggles

  • Anna-Lena Friedsam has 29-14 record on hardcourts this year
  • She has failed to win a match in five of her last eight events
  • Katarzyna Kawa has 7-12 record on hardcourts this year
  • She has won only two main draw wins in her last 10 events

Friedsam Clear Leader in H2H Record

Friedsam has won both of the pair’s previous meetings in straight sets, reinforcing her strong match up advantage.

Friedsam’s Rebuild Reflected in Improved Season Stats

  • Current rank: 170
  • Career high rank: 45
  • Elo rank: 162
  • Season record: 43-21
  • Hardcourt record in 2025: 29-10

Friedsam Bringing Momentum From Angers Semifinal

Anna Lena Friedsam arrives in Limoges with real momentum after a strong semifinal run in Angers, where she pushed deep into the draw before falling to Tamara Korpatsch, 6 3 6 4.

That performance fits the pattern of her season. She missed most of 2024 with injury and started this year outside the top 500, but steady week to week progress has carried her back into the top 200 and produced 10 quarterfinal or better results, including four at the 125k tier.

This will be her third outing in Limoges. She made the quarterfinal on debut in 2015 and returned in 2022, where she exited in the opening round.

With confidence restored and recent match sharpness behind her, she is well placed to make another push this week.

Kawa’s Numbers Reflect Clear Hard Court Difficulties

  • Current rank: 137
  • Career high rank: 112
  • Elo rank: 192
  • Season record: 35-28
  • Hardcourt record in 2025: 7-12

Kawa Looking to Recover From Extended Dip in Results

Katarzyna Kawa returned to competition last week in ITF Dubai after a month away, but her comeback never got going.

She was outplayed in a 6 2 6 2 first round loss to Vendula Valdmannova, struggling to hold serve and giving up six breaks in a match that offered very few positives.

The 33 year old has been in a deep slump for several months. Across her last five months on tour she has managed only two main draw wins, a sharp drop from the player who opened the season by reaching the Bogotá WTA final and pushing for a career high ranking.

Hard courts have been the biggest problem area. Kawa has entered 12 events on this surface in 2025 and nine of them ended in either the opening round or in qualifying.

With her form sliding and her hard court numbers trending poorly, she faces another difficult matchup here.

Verdict

Katarzyna Kawa’s sustained dip in form, combined with her ongoing struggles on hard courts, puts her at a clear disadvantage here. With Anna-Lena Friedsam already holding a 2 0 head to head lead, the German is well placed to extend that record to 3 0 in this matchup.
