The upcoming clash between Botic van de Zandschulp and Francisco Cerundolo in the ATP Munich Open is set to be an exciting encounter. While Cerundolo is the favored player due to his strong recent performance, van de Zandschulp's track record in Munich could lead to a closer match than anticipated. Key statistics show Cerundolo, ranked 19th, has significant strengths on clay, whereas van de Zandschulp, with past successes in Munich, presents a tough challenge. The suggestion is to bet on the match extending beyond 21.5 games.

Van de Zandschulp Yet to Win a Title

Botic van de Zandschulp is still searching for his first ATP Tour title. His best hard court performance this year came at home, a quarter-final run in Rotterdam where he lost to Alex de Minaur in 3 sets.

The 30-year-old started the clay court swing in Bucharest where he took advantage of a soft draw. He cruised past three players outside the Top 70 but met his match in the semi-finals, beaten 5-7 7-6 7-5 by Mariano Navone.

The Dutchman has fond memories in Munich where he got to two finals. He beat qualifier Marc Andrea Huesler 7-6 6-3 in the first round, saving 3/5 break points.

Cerundolo the Fifth Seed in Munich

Francisco Cerundolo has been a Top 20 player since February. His best performances came on clay, winning the title in Buenos Aires and reaching the Santiago semi-finals.

The Argentine returned to hard courts with an early exit in Indian Wells. He then beat Daniil Medvedev and Ugo Humbert in Miami before suffering a 6-1 6-2 quarter-final defeat to Alexander Zverev.

Cerundolo got back onto clay in Monte Carlo where he got past Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-5 6-4. He was a short priced favourite in the second round where he lost 7-6 6-3 to Tomas Machac.

The World No.19 couldn’t have asked for an easier draw in Munich. He defeated lucky loser Sumit Nagal 6-2 6-2, saving all eight break points.

Verdict

Botic van de Zandschulp has reached three finals on the ATP Tour, two of them coming in Munich. I am avoiding the short odds on Francisco Cerundolo and focusing on the games market.
