Gauff Enters Cincinnati With Plenty of Confidence

Coco Gauff had a successful campaign in Toronto last week, where she reached the semifinal before losing to Elena Rybakina from a set up. It was also her best result at the Canadian Open. 

The American lost significant points during the clay swing, including failing to defend her title at Roland Garros, but she bounced back impressively by posting back-to-back semifinals, including at Wimbledon. 

This is her fourth appearance in Cincinnati, and she won at least two matches in all three of her previous appearances, including reaching the quarterfinals in 2021 and 2023.

Samsonova Faces Another Tough Cincinnati Test

Liudmila Samsonova survived a tight three-set match against Yulia Putintseva to reach the second round in Cincinnati. She lost her serve four times but converted all four break points she created during the match. 

Until a few weeks ago, she had struggled significantly and failed to win a match in nine of 12 events from Doha to Berlin. However, she has built momentum in recent weeks by reaching the third round at Wimbledon, the quarterfinals in Washington and the fourth round in Toronto. 

She has a 1-1 record in second-round matches in Cincinnati. She reached the quarterfinals in 2024 but lost to Taylor Townsend at this stage last year.
