Kraus Achieves Paris Breakthrough

Sinja Kraus has qualified for the main draw at French Open for the first time in her career. She battled through three-set wins over Celine Naef and Noma Noha Akugue before producing a dominant victory against Anna-Lena Friedsam in the final qualifying round.

The Austrian has delivered several strong performances on the lower-level circuit this season, reaching five quarterfinals or better, including a runner-up finish at the WTA 125 event in Oeiras. Those results have helped her remain close to the top 100 rankings.

However, her struggles at tour level have continued. Since reaching the second round in Auckland at the start of the season, she has entered seven tour-level events and failed to progress beyond either qualifying or the opening round.

Bencic Maintaining Solid Form

Belinda Bencic has continued to produce consistent results throughout 2026. She has played seven tournaments so far this season and won at least one match in all of them, highlighted by quarterfinal appearances in Miami and Charleston.

The Swiss player was unable to defend her title in Abu Dhabi and also fell short of her Australian Open quarterfinal result from last year. However, her steady performances across the opening five months have kept her close to a return to the top 10 rankings.

Bencic missed last year’s French Open after suffering an injury in Rome. With no points to defend in Paris this season, she has a valuable opportunity to gain important ranking points ahead of the demanding summer schedule and strengthen her push back toward the top 10.

Verdict

Sinja Kraus has a strong record on clay at lower-level events, but she has struggled to translate that success to tour-level tournaments. Combined with her history of difficulties in Grand Slams, Belinda Bencic looks set to win this match in straight sets.
