Medjedovic Comfortable on Clay


Hamad Medjedovic struggled on hard courts but has improved on clay. He won the Naples Challenger and is now 11-2 since making the switch to his favourite surface.

The Serbian was beaten by Vit Kopriva in the first round in Marrakech before qualifying in Barcelona and going on a deep run. He beat Alex de Minaur in straight sets on his way to the semi-finals where he lost in 3 sets to Andrey Rublev.

The 22-year-old was too good for Valentin Royer in his opening match in Rome. He won 6-4 6-3 after saving 3/4 break points and breaking the Frenchman four times.

Fonseca Yet to Win in Rome


Joao Fonseca took some time to get going this year but is showing some consistency on clay. He ran into Alexander Zverev in the Monte Carlo quarter-finals and went down in 3 sets.

The 19-year-old met another Top 10 player in the Munich quarter-finals, going close in a quarter-final defeat against Ben Shelton.

The Brazilian lost his opening match in Madrid, fading in a 7-6 4-6 6-1 defeat to Rafael Jodar.

Fonseca has played once in Rome, losing to Fabian Marozsan in the first round last year.

Joao Fonseca has been running into some top players and is this will be his first clash against Hamad Medjedovic. The Brazilian could need some time to get up to speed in Rome but should be too good in the end.
