Sinner Chasing Career Grand Slam
Jannik Sinner hasn’t lost since February, rattling off 29 consecutive victories with 26 earned in straight sets. He won Masters titles in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid, deservedly returning to World No.1.
The Italian continued that form in Rome, easing into the semi-finals where a rain delay disrupted his match against Daniil Medvedev. He was still too good, getting through 6-2 5-7 6-4 in almost three hours.
The 24-year-old showed his class in the final where he defeated Casper Ruud 6-4 6-4. He saved 1/2 break points, hitting 26 winners and 15 unforced errors.
Sinner spoke about his form leading up to the French Open: "It has been a very long but very positive period. I'm lucky to be in this position. I think it's always better to be in a position where you win and you start to feel tired than you feel very good but you lose a couple of rounds."
Tabur in Unfamiliar Territory
Clement Tabur has competed in just three ATP Tour events. He qualified for the French Open last year where he went out in the first round, a straight sets defeat to Corentin Moutet.
The 26-year-old won the Tallahassee Challenger in April without facing a Top 200 player. He was unable to qualify at the Bordeaux Challenger but corrected that in Geneva.
Tabur defeated Marc Andrea Huesler and Raul Brancaccio in the qualifiers and held his own in the first round. It wasn’t enough against Alexei Popyrin, going down 7-6 6-7 6-4 in over three hours.
Verdict
Jannik Sinner is in sensational form and expected to make light work of Clement Tabur. The Frenchman has never been in the Top 150 and is set for a swift exit against the World No.1.
