Despite a notable surge in form from Andreeva in North America this year, experts conclude that Gauff's seasoned experience and superior record in the region make her the likely favorite to move forward in their upcoming match. While Andreeva’s performance signals a bright future, Gauff’s consistency at this level is expected to prevail. Ultimately, the recommendation is to back Gauff for the win due to her competitive edge in high-stakes North American matches.

Andreeva Adds Another Milestone to Her Remarkable Rise

Mirra Andreeva defeated Anastasia Potapova from a set down to reach the quarterfinals at the US Open, winning 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. After losing the opening set, she raised her level and took control of the match to complete the comeback.

The Russian unlocked another achievement this week, becoming the first teenager to reach the quarterfinals at all four Grand Slam events across all three surfaces since Nicole Vaidisova in 2007.

Before arriving in New York, Andreeva had been below her best in recent tournaments, winning only four matches across her previous four events. However, her resurgence this week has been impressive.

She has played eight quarterfinals this year and won five of them, with most of her deep runs coming on clay, including her Grand Slam title at Roland Garros. On hard courts, she had played nine events before this week, and apart from her title in Adelaide, her other campaigns had ended before the quarterfinal stage.

Andreeva has a 2-2 record in Grand Slam quarterfinals, and this is her first quarterfinal on hard courts at this level. Both of her previous wins at this stage came at Roland Garros.

Gauff Powers Into Another US Open Quarterfinal

Coco Gauff defeated Iva Jovic in comfortable straight sets to reach the quarterfinals at the US Open, winning 6-1, 6-4. She lost her serve twice but broke her opponent five times during the match.

This is Gauff's third US Open quarterfinal. She lost at this stage to Caroline Garcia in 2022 but converted her next opportunity into the title in 2023. This is also the first time she has reached the quarterfinals at three Grand Slam events in the same season.

The 22-year-old lost significant ranking points during the clay swing, including from failing to defend her title at Roland Garros, but she impressively bounced back with strong results, reaching the semifinals at Wimbledon and Toronto before winning the title in Cincinnati.

Gauff has played seven quarterfinals on tour this year and won five of them, including her last three.

She has a 6-5 record in Grand Slam quarterfinals and is 3-1 against Top 10 players at this stage. She will look to improve that record against Andreeva this week.

Verdict

Andreeva has shown an impressive surge in form in North America this year, but Gauff's greater experience at this level and her strong record in the region give her the advantage. Those factors make Gauff the favorite to progress in this clash.
