Alexandra Eala's continued improvement on grass has been evident with notable wins and momentum from recent tournaments. However, Elena Rybakina's superior power and proven grass-court track record make her the strong favorite in their upcoming clash. Rybakina, ranked No. 2 in the world and boasting multiple titles this season, is expected to progress with relative ease, likely in straight sets. While Eala is emerging as a formidable player, Rybakina's experience and consistency on this surface give her a distinct edge.

Eala Continues Impressive Grass-Court Run

Alexandra Eala moved into the second round after defeating Donna Vekic in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. She fired eight aces and saved 12 of the 14 break points she faced during the match.

The 21-year-old has now won seven of her last eight grass-court matches, a run that includes the title at the Birmingham WTA 125 event and a second-round appearance at Queen's Club.

Eala has enjoyed a solid season overall, apart from a difficult clay swing on her least preferred surface. Her best results include quarterfinal runs in Auckland, Abu Dhabi and Dubai, along with fourth-round appearances at both Indian Wells and Miami.

She has recorded multiple tour-level main-draw wins on grass only once before in her career. That came in Eastbourne last year, where she reached her maiden tour-level final and announced herself as a dangerous player on the surface.

Rybakina Aims to Reignite Strong Season

Elena Rybakina arrives this week after a couple of disappointing early exits. Following a strong start to the season, she suffered defeats to Yulia Starodubtseva at Roland Garros and Katie Boulter at Queen's Club.

Despite those recent setbacks, the Kazakh has enjoyed an excellent season overall. She has reached at least the quarterfinals in seven tournaments, including title-winning runs at the Australian Open and Stuttgart, along with a runner-up finish at Indian Wells.

Those results helped Rybakina climb to a career-high ranking of No. 2 earlier this year. She will now be looking to put the recent losses behind her and make a deep run this week.

Last season, she also began the grass swing with a quarterfinal appearance at Queen's Club before backing it up with a quarterfinal run in Berlin and a third-round showing at Wimbledon. She will be hoping for a similar stretch of results again this year.

Verdict

Alexandra Eala continues to improve on grass and has shown encouraging progress on the surface. However, Elena Rybakina’s greater overall quality, combined with her powerful serve and proven grass-court pedigree, make her the clear favorite. Rybakina looks well placed to come through in straight sets.
