Mattia Bellucci continues his impressive form on grass courts, aiming for consecutive quarterfinal appearances after upsetting Alexander Bublik at ATP Halle. He faces Raphael Collignon, whose breakthrough runs this season have propelled him up the rankings but who remains inexperienced on grass surfaces. Bellucci holds a 2-0 career advantage over Collignon and is generally more comfortable on grass. Given the psychological edge and head-to-head record, Bellucci is favored to advance, though Collignon’s confidence and form add intrigue to the contest.

Raphael Collignon may be the superior player overall, but grass remains a relatively unfamiliar surface for him. In contrast, Mattia Bellucci has enjoyed considerably more success on grass and is generally more comfortable in these conditions.

Adding further weight to his case, Bellucci has won both of their previous meetings, giving him a useful psychological edge heading into this contest.

Bellucci Eyes Back-To-Back Quarterfinals

  • Collignon had never won a main-draw match on grass before this week.
  • He owns a 23–4 record against players outside the Top 50 this year.
  • Bellucci is seeking consecutive tour-level quarterfinals for the first time in his career.
  • He holds a 10–9 record against higher-ranked opponents in 2026.

Belgian Building Confidence on New Surface

Raphael Collignon moved into the second round in Halle after defeating Alexei Popyrin in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. It was his third win of the week, including qualifying, and he has not lost more than four games in any set so far.

The 24-year-old Belgian has shown rapid progress since last season. He reached his first tour-level quarterfinal in Brussels last October and added another in Brisbane earlier this year. Those results, combined with a third-round run at Roland Garros and three Challenger finals, helped him achieve a career-high ranking of No. 51 a few days ago.

Before this week, Collignon had made only two appearances on grass, both at Wimbledon qualifying, and failed to reach the main draw on either occasion. He lost two of the three matches he played during those campaigns, making this week's run his best result on the surface so far.

Bellucci Stuns Bublik in Halle

Mattia Bellucci reached the second round in Halle after producing a major upset against Alexander Bublik, winning 7-6, 6-1. He fired nine aces and converted all three break points he created during the match.

Last week, the Italian reached the quarterfinals in Stuttgart, his first tour-level grass-court quarterfinal. During that run, he defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Yannick Hanfmann before losing to Taylor Fritz, with all three matches going the distance.

Bellucci is now just one win away from another grass-court quarterfinal, continuing an encouraging stretch on the surface. It is a strong response from the Italian, who has struggled for consistency at tour level despite producing several notable results in Challenger events over the past year.

Verdict

Considering the surface advantage and the head-to-head record, there appears to be a bit of value on Bellucci at underdog odds. Backing Bellucci to cause an upset and Bellucci to win over 12.5 games in the match both look like worthwhile plays.
