The Dallas Open basically kicks off the first stretch of ATP events in the United States each season, acting as the early indoor stop before the calendar shifts deeper into the American swing. It started out as an ATP 250, but the jump to ATP 500 status in 2025 has given the tournament a lot more weight and a stronger field.

Played indoors at the Ford Center at The Star, it is a quick, compact week that usually delivers aggressive tennis and a few tight matches, making it a solid early gauge of who is settling into form on American hard courts.

Tournament Overview

  • Location: Frisco, Texas, United States
  • Dates: February 9–15, 2026
  • Category: ATP Tour 500
  • Edition: 5th
  • Surface: Indoor hard courts
  • Venue: Ford Center at The Star
  • Draw: 28 singles | 16 doubles

It is a standard ATP 500 setup for the week. Qualifying takes place over the weekend, the main draw gets underway on Monday, and the final is played the following Sunday. The singles field is 28 players with no byes, so everyone starts from round one and has to come through the same route.

Playing Conditions

Dallas is a pretty balanced indoor stop overall. The courts are medium to medium-fast with a clean, true bounce, so big servers get their reward, but it is not so quick that baseline players are taken out of it.

You have seen all types win here, from big-serving players like Opelka to more all-court and rally-based guys like Tommy Paul, and last year’s champion Denis Shapovalov also leaned heavily on first-strike tennis.

With no wind and fully controlled conditions, players can trust their patterns, which means the courts offer something for most styles as long as they execute well.

Factor What to Expect Match Impact
Surface Speed Medium to medium-fast indoor hard Rewards strong serving and first-strike tennis
Bounce True and predictable Encourages aggressive baseline hitting
Environment Fully indoor, no wind Players can commit to patterns with confidence
Style Edge Big hitters and front-foot players Short points and serve dominance common

Recent Champions

Dallas has already produced a pretty varied set of winners, which tells you the indoor courts here are fair to different styles.

The upgrade to ATP 500 level in 2025 added more weight to the event, with Denis Shapovalov lifting the biggest title in the tournament’s short history, and the finals here have generally been tight and competitive.

Year Category Winner Runner-up
2022 ATP 250 Reilly Opelka Jenson Brooksby
2023 ATP 250 Wu Yibing John Isner
2024 ATP 250 Tommy Paul Marcos Giron
2025 ATP 500 Denis Shapovalov Casper Ruud

Top 8 Seeds

The top end of the 2026 Dallas field had a strong American presence, which makes sense given this is the first indoor stop of the year in the U.S.

With the quick indoor conditions, a lot of focus was on serve quality and first-strike tennis among the leading seeds, especially with several aggressive players sitting in that top eight.

Seed Player
1 Taylor Fritz
2 Ben Shelton
3 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina
4 Flavio Cobolli
5 Tommy Paul
6 Learner Tien
7 Denis Shapovalov
8 Frances Tiafoe

Players to Watch

Taylor Fritz
Fritz is usually a big factor at events in the U.S. and on paper this is a great setup for him. That said, recent fitness issues and some underwhelming results make him a tougher player to trust this week. He is still the top seed and a respected name here, but confidence does not look at its highest right now.

Ben Shelton
Shelton looks like one of the main contenders coming in. He made the semifinals here on debut and his serve plus first-strike game fits these indoor courts perfectly. Add in the momentum from a strong Australian Open run and he shapes as one of the most dangerous players in the draw.

Tommy Paul
Paul is always a solid performer on U.S. hard courts and usually gets plenty of support in events like this. However, recent form and fitness concerns cloud his outlook a bit. If he is fully sharp he can go deep, but there are some doubts about whether he can put together a full week right now.

Denis Shapovalov
Shapovalov returns as defending champion and is always capable of catching fire indoors. The inconsistency is still there, but when he finds rhythm early in a tournament he can string wins together quickly. If he gets hot again this week, he is more than capable of making another deep run.

Learner Tien
Tien is one of the fastest-rising American players right now and keeps punching above his weight most weeks. He has already shown he can handle indoor conditions with strong runs in places like Metz and Next Gen Finals, and this setup should suit his game again. If he settles quickly, he has a good chance to put together another solid week in Dallas.

Verdict

Shelton and Shapovalov look like the two main title angles this week. Shelton’s game fits these indoor courts perfectly and he comes in with momentum, while Shapovalov has already shown he can catch fire here and go all the way.

Keep an eye on Learner Tien as well. He is playing with confidence, handles indoor conditions well, and could easily be the one who makes a deeper-than-expected run.
