Alcaraz into First Australian Open Final
Carlos Alcaraz started the year with Samuel Lopez as his new coach following the departure of Juan Carlos Ferrero.
The Spaniard didn’t drop a set at the Australian Open, hardly troubled in victories over Adam Walton, Yannick Hanfmann and Corentin Moutet. He beat Tommy Paul 7-6 6-4 7-5 after winning 68% of his 2nd serves and saving 1/2 break points.
The World No.1 flew home to defeat Alex de Minaur 7-5 6-2 6-1 in the quarter-finals. The 22-year-old was involved in an epic semi-final clash against Alexander Zverev, coming through 6-4 7-6 6-7 6-7 7-5 in over five hours.
Alcaraz was proud after the victory against Zverev: “I was struggling in the middle of the third set. Physically it was one of the most demanding matches that I have played in my short career.”
“I have been in these kinds of situations and I knew what I had to do. I had to put my heart into the match. I think I did it and I fought until the last ball. I knew I was going to have my chances. I am extremely proud of myself with the way that I fought and came back in the fifth set.”

Djokovic on Track for 25th Grand Slam
Novak Djokovic withdrew from the Adelaide International but has shown few signs of physical problems at the Australian Open.
The 38-year-old began his campaign for an 11th title with straight sets victories over Pedro Martinez, Francesco Maestrelli and Botic van de Zandschulp.
The World No.4 had a walkover against Jakub Mensik and had more fortune in the quarter-finals. Trailing 4-6 3-6 3-1 to Lorenzo Musetti, he got a free pass after the Italian retired due to a thigh injury.
The Serbian looked down and out on multiple occasions against Jannik Sinner in a dramatic semi-final in Melbourne. He came through 3-6 6-3 4-6 6-4 6-4, saving an incredible 16/18 break points with the defending champion giving up eight.
Djokovic spoke on court after the victory: “I am lost for words right now, to be honest. It feels surreal to be honest. Playing for over four hours, it is nearly 2am.”
“Reminiscing about 2012 when I played Rafa in the final and that was almost six hours. The level of intensity and the quality of tennis was extremely high and I knew that was the only way for me to win tonight against him.”
