Casper Ruud went 7-7 on hard courts but is now 15-4 on clay. He retired in Monte Carlo before reaching the quarter-finals in Madrid.

The 27-year-old took out four Top 20 players on his way to the final in Rome where he went down 6-4 6-4 to Jannik Sinner. He went deep again in Geneva, exiting in the semi-finals after a surprise 7-5 6-2 defeat to Mariano Navone.

Paul Consistent on Clay

Tommy Paul has been consistent this year, reaching three finals. The first came in Delray Beach where he lost to Sebastian Korda, the second in Houston where he beat Roman Andres Burruchaga to claim the title.

The American went all the way in Hamburg where he was favoured to beat qualifier Ignacio Buse. It didn’t work out as planned, losing 7-6 4-6 6-3 in over three hours.

The 29-year-old has spent five and a half hours on court at the French Open, getting past Rinky Hijikata 4-6 6-3 7-5 6-4 and Lorenzo Sonego 6-3 6-2 6-4, saving a combined 14/18 break points.
