Alexander Zverev enters the French Open third-round clash against Quentin Halys as the heavy favorite, especially after Jannik Sinner’s shock exit. Zverev has excelled at Roland Garros, winning 37 of his last 45 matches there. Halys has yet to reach a quarter-final on tour this year and has struggled against Top 10 players. With Zverev’s dominant form—especially on serve—a straightforward victory in straight sets is expected. Key recommendation: Zverev 3-0 win.

Quentin Halys is playing well in Paris and kept it close against Alexander Zverev in Miami. Zverev is the form player at Roland Garros however, has taken over as the favourite and can record another swift victory.

Halys Finding Form at the French Open

Quentin Halys is 10-9 on the ATP Tour this year, unable to get to a quarter-final. Switching to clay courts has done little to improve his fortunes.

The Frenchman fell in the first round in Marrakech before failing to qualify in Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Madrid. He went to the Bordeaux Challenger where he was beaten 6-2 6-4 by Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the semi-finals.

The 29-year-old has defied that form at Roland Garros where he is yet to drop a set. He defeated Mattia Bellucci 6-3 7-6 6-3 and Ugo Humbert 6-4 7-6 7-6, saving 4/6 break points in each victory.

Zverev the New Favourite at Roland Garros

Alexander Zverev has been consistent this year but continues to struggle against Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. He lost his first five semi-finals, four of them against Alcaraz or Sinner.

The German got to the final in Madrid where he was thrashed 6-1 6-2 by Sinner, going down in 57 minutes. He went to Rome and suffered a 1-6 7-6 6-0 fourth round defeat to Luciano Darderi, unable to convert four break points.

Zverev has done it easy at the French Open, defeating Benjamin Bonzi 6-3 6-4 6-2 and Tomas Machac 6-4 6-2 6-2. His serve has been broken once on three attempts, winning more than 77% of his 2nd serves.

Verdict

Alexander Zverev has a great chance to win the French Open following Jannik Sinner’s shock exit. I don’t think he will slip up against Quentin Halys, a straight sets win expected at Roland Garros.
