Aryna Sabalenka advances to her fourth consecutive French Open quarterfinal, defeating Naomi Osaka and becoming the first WTA player with 14 straight Grand Slam quarterfinals since Serena Williams. Her opponent, Diana Shnaider, reached her maiden Slam quarterfinal after overcoming an eight-match Top 20 losing streak. While Shnaider’s run is impressive, Sabalenka’s superior form, Grand Slam pedigree, and unmatched record at this stage make her the overwhelming favorite. Barring an upset, Sabalenka is predicted to advance in straight sets.

Sabalenka’s form and Grand Slam pedigree make her the clear favorite, while Shnaider may struggle to seriously threaten her despite a strong recent run.

History Favors The Favorite

  • Aryna Sabalenka holds an outstanding 13–1 record in Grand Slam quarterfinals.
  • She owns a 59–2 record against players outside the Top 20 at Grand Slams since the 2022 US Open.

  • This is her maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance.

Sabalenka Extends Historic Grand Slam Streak

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Naomi Osaka in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals at the French Open, 7-5, 6-3. Despite losing her opening service game, she quickly took control of the match, firing 12 aces and winning 83 percent of her first-serve points.

This is Sabalenka's fourth consecutive quarterfinal appearance at Roland Garros. Apart from her loss to Mirra Andreeva at this stage in 2024, she converted her other two quarterfinal appearances into a semifinal run in 2023 and a runner-up finish in 2025.

With this victory, Sabalenka becomes the first player to reach 14 consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinals since Serena Williams achieved 16 in a row between 2000 and 2005.

The Belarusian has enjoyed another outstanding season. Aside from a couple of disappointing results during the clay-court lead-up events, she has won 31 of her 34 matches this year and reached four finals.

She heads into the quarterfinals with a remarkable 13-1 record at this stage of Grand Slams. Her only defeat came here at Roland Garros against Andreeva in 2024.

Russian Ends Top-20 Drought in Style

Diana Shnaider booked her place in the quarterfinals after defeating Madison Keys in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-0. She saved seven of the 10 break points she faced and converted six of the seven opportunities she created.

This is a result to cherish for the Russian. Before this year, she had never gone beyond the second round at Roland Garros, and this is also the first Grand Slam quarterfinal of her career. With the victory, she snapped an eight-match losing streak against Top 20 opponents.

Shnaider arrived in Paris short on confidence after failing to win multiple matches in seven of her previous eight tournaments. Those results were disappointing following a solid start to the season that included a semifinal run in Adelaide and a third-round appearance in Brisbane.

That difficult stretch pushed her outside the Top 20, but this run has moved her back into that group. To maintain her position, however, she will need to continue producing consistent results at the biggest events.

She heads into the quarterfinals with a 12-5 record in tour-level quarterfinal matches. All 12 of those victories came against players ranked outside the Top 10. On clay, her quarterfinal record stands at 2-2.

Verdict

Considering Aryna Sabalenka’s strong form and impressive record at this stage of Grand Slams, she looks well placed to come through in straight sets. Diana Shnaider is boosted by her recent wins and deep run this week, but she may not have the weapons needed to seriously challenge the world No. 1.
