Petra Marcinko continued her breakthrough run in Rabat by defeating Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semifinals. She trailed 1-3 in the second set before quickly turning the match around to finish in straight sets.
Earlier this week, Marcinko survived a difficult three-set battle against Yelyzaveta Kotliar in the quarterfinals. The Croatian has shown impressive resilience throughout the tournament.
Marcinko endured a difficult stretch during the opening months of the season, winning only two matches across nine events and suffering an eight-match losing streak at one stage.
Since the clay swing began, however, her level has steadily improved with a semifinal in the WTA 125 event in Oeiras, a second-round run in Madrid and now another semifinal in Rabat.
Before this week, Marcinko had never reached a tour-level quarterfinal. Still, she owns a strong semifinal record at lower-level events, winning five of her last six semifinal matches between W75 and WTA 125 tournaments.
