Marcinko has gradually found momentum on clay after a slow start to the season, while Teichmann’s unpredictable form makes her difficult to fully trust in this matchup.

Teichmann Survives Dramatic Battle

Jil Teichmann secured her place in the semifinals after surviving a huge scare against Yasmine Kabbaj in Rabat, winning 6-1, 5-7, 7-6. She recovered from two breaks down in the deciding set and saved three match points before turning the match around.

Earlier this week, Teichmann also produced strong straight-set wins over Julia Grabher and Alycia Parks. This is the first time she has recorded multiple wins in an event since her runner-up finish in Iasi last year.

The Swiss player will be pleased with her performances this week considering she ended her 2025 season early and only returned to competition in April. Before Rabat, she had managed just one main-draw win in her first four tournaments of 2026.

This is only Teichmann’s second tour-level semifinal appearance in the last four years. She now holds a solid 5-3 career record in tour-level semifinals.

Marcinko Extends Dream Campaign

Petra Marcinko continued her breakthrough run in Rabat by defeating Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-3, 6-4 to reach the semifinals. She trailed 1-3 in the second set before quickly turning the match around to finish in straight sets.

Earlier this week, Marcinko survived a difficult three-set battle against Yelyzaveta Kotliar in the quarterfinals. The Croatian has shown impressive resilience throughout the tournament.

Marcinko endured a difficult stretch during the opening months of the season, winning only two matches across nine events and suffering an eight-match losing streak at one stage.

Since the clay swing began, however, her level has steadily improved with a semifinal in the WTA 125 event in Oeiras, a second-round run in Madrid and now another semifinal in Rabat.

Before this week, Marcinko had never reached a tour-level quarterfinal. Still, she owns a strong semifinal record at lower-level events, winning five of her last six semifinal matches between W75 and WTA 125 tournaments.

Verdict

Jil Teichmann has more experience on her side, but her inconsistency and sudden dips in performance remain a concern. Petra Marcinko, meanwhile, has continued to build confidence on clay after a disappointing start to the season. Based on her recent performances, Marcinko looks well placed to progress further.
