Cerundolo Coming off Four Tie Breaks

Juan Manuel Cerundolo is 8-9 on the ATP Tour this year, reaching the quarter-finals in Rio de Janeiro. He disappointed after that, failing to get past the second round in his next seven events.

The Argentine won the Bordeaux Challeger in May and carried that form to the French Open.

The 24-year-old beat Jacob Fearnley 6-2 7-6 7-6 in under three hours before an incredible victory over Jannik Sinner. Trailing by two sets and down 5-1 in the third set, he took advantage of Sinner’s capitulation in the heat to win 3-6 2-6 7-5 6-1 6-1.

Cerundolo went over six hours in the third round, a 6-4 6-7 7-6 6-7 7-6 win over Martin Landaluce. He saved 13/17 break points, winning 50% of the points.

Berrettini Back From the Brink at Roland Garros

Matteo Berrettini thrashed Daniil Medvedev 6-0 6-0 in Monte Carlo but it wasn't a sign of things to come. He went out in the first round in Madrid and Rome before a second round exit at the Valencia Challenger.

The Italian dropped out of the Top 100 but has shown no signs of deserving it at the French Open. He came back to beat Marton Fucsovics 6-7 7-5 6-1 6-2 in his opening match.

The 30-year-old was efficient in the second round, a 6-4 6-4 6-4 victory over Arthur Rinderknech. He spent over five hours on court in a 7-6 5-7 6-7 6-4 7-6 win against Francisco Comesana, saving two match points.
