Victoria Mboko and Karolina Muchova are set for their first-ever meeting in the Doha final. Mboko's rapid rise has seen her confidently overcome top opponents, making her a formidable contender. Despite Muchova reaching her first final since 2024 after overcoming fitness issues, her history of struggles in finals (1-5 record) contrasts with Mboko's strong showing in previous finals (2-1 record). Both players have shown impressive form, but Mboko's current momentum and fearless play against top opponents give her the edge over Muchova's experience.

Resurgent Muchova Ends Semifinal Drought in Doha

Karolina Muchova produced a superb comeback to defeat Maria Sakkari in three sets and reach the Doha final. She trailed by a set and a break before turning the match around.

The result comes as a relief for the Czech, who has battled recurring fitness issues in recent years that stalled her progress and limited deep runs at big events.

Now in better physical shape, Muchova has won 11 of her 13 matches this season. This run also ends her five-match losing streak in semifinals and sends her into her first final since Beijing 2024.

She has previously contested six WTA finals, winning only the Seoul 2019 title, while finishing runner-up in the other five, including four losses against top-10 opponents.

Mboko’s Rapid Rise Reaches New High in Doha

Victoria Mboko defeated Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-2 to reach the Doha final. She dropped her opening service game but quickly found her rhythm and dominated from there.

The 19-year-old has been outstanding this week, particularly against top-10 opponents like Mirra Andreeva and Elena Rybakina. In both matches, she trailed by a break in the deciding set before producing clutch comebacks.

Mboko’s rise has been remarkable. Ranked outside the top 300 at the start of 2025 and without a tour-level win before March, she has now confirmed her top-10 debut with this semifinal victory.

She owns a 2-1 record in tour-level finals so far, winning titles in Montreal and Hong Kong last year. Her only defeat in a final came against Andreeva earlier this season in Adelaide.

Verdict

Both players have impressed this season and carry strong momentum into this clash. Muchova brings experience and added motivation, but Mboko’s fearless shot-making and recent success against top opponents tilt the balance in favor of Victoria Mboko, who looks primed to edge past Karolina Muchova.
