Injury Setbacks for Musetti
Lorenzo Musetti had a strong start to the year before an unfortunate injury in the Australian Open quarter-finals. He returned to action on clay but a thigh injury forced him to miss the French Open.
The Italian sat out the grass court swing, getting back on court in Washington where he lost to Rafael Jodar in the quarter-finals. He met Jodar again in Montreal, beaten in the third round.
The 24-year-old has taken advantage of a comfortable draw in Cincinnati where he hasn’t dropped a set. His serve has been broken once in each match, defeating Daniel Altmaier 6-4 6-2, Michael Zheng 6-1 6-3 and Jaime Faria 7-5 6-2.
Tiafoe Chasing Second Final in Cincinnati
Frances Tiafoe is 35-15 this year, losing the final in Acapulco and winning the title in Halle.
The 28-year-old went out early in Washington and Montreal where he retired in the third round. He had a cyst removed from his right hand and is playing with freedom in Cincinnati.
The American beat Lorenzo Sonego 6-3 6-4, Learner Tien 6-4 4-6 6-4 and Felix Auger Aliassime 6-3 6-4, saving a combined 3/7 break points.
Tiafoe spoke after his fourth round victory over Auger Aliassime: "I returned pretty well tonight. Super solid from the back of the court. Didn't have many errors there."
"I just tried to make it tough for him. Make him play a lot of balls, play fast and rushed him a little bit and I did a great job of it. Pretty happy with how I played."
