Waltert Looks to Continue Her Cincinnati Momentum

Simona Waltert moved into the second round in Cincinnati after defeating Petra Marcinko from a set down, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2. After losing the first set, she saved all nine break points she faced in the remaining two sets to complete the comeback.

Before this week, she was on a seven-match losing streak on tour and had failed to win a match at this level in her last six tournaments.

She has registered multiple wins only twice this year, with both runs coming at lower-level tournaments, reaching the final at WTA 125 Bastad and the quarterfinals at WTA 125 Canberra.

Pegula Looks to Rebuild Momentum After Toronto

Jessica Pegula suffered a disappointing loss in Toronto last week, where she lost to Diana Shnaider in straight sets in the fourth round. It was a disappointing result considering her strong record at the Canadian Open.

The American has posted impressive results and has been one of the most consistent players on tour, reaching at least the quarterfinals in 10 of the 13 events she has played, including four finals.

This is her seventh main-draw appearance in Cincinnati, and she cleared the first-round hurdle in five of her previous six appearances, including reaching the final in 2024.
