Sorana Cirstea and Emma Raducanu prepare for a high-stakes clash on grass as both seek momentum in the Queen's Club tournament. Cirstea, bolstered by a career-high ranking and a breakthrough win after a grass-court drought, faces Raducanu, who opened her season with a strong victory after battling illness and inconsistent form. While Cirstea's confidence and top-20 status make her the favorite, Raducanu's proven grass-court ability and underdog appeal could make this a tight contest.

Cirstea arrives with confidence after reaching a career-high level, while Raducanu is still rebuilding momentum following a difficult few months. However, the Brit’s natural strengths on grass make her a dangerous opponent and a worthwhile underdog consideration.

Raducanu Seeks Grass-Court Lift

  • Cirstea has not registered multiple wins on grass since 2023.
  • She owns an outstanding 25–1 record against players outside the Top 20 this year.
  • Raducanu has not registered multiple tour-level wins since February.
  • She is currently on an eight-match losing streak against Top 20 players.

Cirstea Records First Grass Win Since 2023

Sorana Cirstea defeated qualifier Madison Inglis 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 to reach the second round at Queen's Club. She dropped serve four times but broke her opponent on six occasions to come through the three-set battle.

With this victory, Cirstea snapped a six-match losing streak on grass and recorded her first win on the surface since Wimbledon 2023, where she reached the third round. Over the last decade, she has reached just one grass-court quarterfinal, highlighting her limited success on the surface.

The 36-year-old has produced five quarterfinal-or-better results this season, with four of them coming during the recently completed clay swing. She will now try to carry that level into the grass-court season.

Raducanu Opens Grass Season in Style

Emma Raducanu began her grass-court season with a dominant 6-0, 6-3 victory over Anna Blinkova in the first round. She faced only two break points, losing serve both times, but converted six of the eight break opportunities she created.

It was an important result for the Brit, who had lost six of her previous seven matches, including four opening-round defeats. Grass has generally brought better results in recent seasons, with Raducanu recording at least two wins in five of her last six tournaments on the surface.

The former US Open champion has played only eight events this season and recorded multiple wins just once, when she finished runner-up in Cluj-Napoca in February. Since then, viral illness has affected her schedule and results, contributing to several early exits and withdrawals. She will now look to put those setbacks behind her and make the most of the grass swing.

Verdict

Sorana Cirstea is playing close to her peak level and recently broke into the top 20, which should give her plenty of confidence. Emma Raducanu, meanwhile, is returning after dealing with illness over the past few months. However, Raducanu’s proven ability on grass remains a major positive, and she could offer good value in this matchup.
